Definitely a interesting and well done post.

definetly ^^^^

2 weeks is if you take your time

if you really bust balls, you can do it in 2 days or less

2 WEEKS!!!!!! Are you all nuts! if you take more than 2 full days then step off, pj took 2 weeks cuz he needed parts. If you have all the parts you need (and Jason will) you can do it in under 15 hours. I can prove that

took me a about 2 weeks just because i converted from automatic to stickshift

thats why this swap should take two weeks tops

ok what i want to know after reading this whole post is that the 2.2 ecotec is a better engine than the 2.4? see i have 97 z w/2.4 want to swap 2.2 ecotec and 5 speed....is this a good idea or should i just swasp a 5 speed in the 2.4....need some help...........................

the 2.4 eco swap would be a pretty big hassle... its used in the SS n/a cobalts, but as similar as they are, they're still different.

It'd be uncharted territory and you'd have to do a lot of trial and error work.

Also, I'm not sure what the electronics setup is like... I know newer GM ecus have 3 plugs instead of only 2... I'm not sure how it interfaces with the vehicle in comparison to jbodies

regardless of what you do, you have to update your entire electrical to 00+ standards.

the 2.4 eco is hard to figure since its used in heavy vehicles. When I drove a 5 speed cobalt SS n/a 2.4, the engine felt amoebic at best.. just seemed to have no balls or top end just slush. Course it could have been the weight of the vehicle...

to be honest, the 2.0 is going to be the new shizz in the ecotec world. Square bore /stroke is what you want... oil squirters, forged rods... its a dynamite engine thats going to be very hard to beat in stock trim with some basic bolt ons. The new 2.0 turbo engine would be an awesome addition to any Jbody, but again the new ecu plug scheme may pose a problem

Its being documented on here somewhere.. airtonics is beginning his 2.0 swap, and I believe someone else has done it already...

anyone got some insight for 2.4 -> eco swap?

so far i found that the 2.4 -> eco is a bit easier cause everything such as ps lines and such match up with no problems

with just the motor will the lines off the 2.4 bolt onto the eco and then to the chassis with no problems

where would one start to take the harness off for ease? do you need the fuse panel off the eco as well or will the 2.4's be able to be reused

thanks for the help

damn i'm glad i came across this post!

now i know exactly what i need to perchase for when i do deside to go ECO.

right now i'm updating my 96 electronics to a 00 and running a 00 2200 for now in it with a 4spd auto (i should feel a difference from a 96 2.2L with a 3spd auto) haha!

i should have the entire harness (body & engine) swaped into my 96 by next weekend!

just gotta keep it going. show season is pretty much over for me this weekend so im going to start cleaning up the ecotec and start getting a parts list together. shouldn't need much probalby hoses being most of what i need to pick up besides a radiater wich i hope to find next weekend.

into a 2.4 it should be easier

you still need the engine and transmission

I hear rumors you can use the 2.4 upper mount with the eco, but I'd get the rksport upper mount just to be safe

2000 and up would be easiest electrically.. a pre 00 install is a bit more involved and personally i know nothing about that

but the 2.4 has the same PS pump setup as the ecotec, so the lines should reach the factory PS pump on the eco.

overall, the swap should be much easier than on an OHV but electircally its the simplest on a 2000 or higher

it can still be done on earlier years, but its a bit more involved

Now doing this swap in a 99 with the 2200. Would it be basically the same as doing the swap on a 00+ car?
