Problem:
I have a ’95 Cavalier 2.2L with the 3 speed automatic. My car was just totaled by some chick. I just had the engine rebuilt and customized (like 2 months ago). I would like to put this engine into another cavalier, especially since I just sunk a couple thousand into the engine.
Solutions?
If I would like to swap the engine into another cavalier I would need to find a 95-97 right? Is it possible to put my engine into another Manual Cavalier? How hard would that be? I have read the article “Make my Automatic a Manual” and it is mostly about making an automatic cavy a manual. Is there anything I should look out for? Will I run into any problems dropping my “auto” engine into a manual car? Am I right about only being able to swap into a 95-97 cav? I still have the automatic car I just can’t drive it.
What possibilities do I have with my built engine, and the cost? I would not to spend a lot of money on the swap.
The engine will make no difference, it's the transmission that would be the issue.
Get another transmission of your choosing and an ecu for that type and you should be good to go.
built engine as in factory pistons? if you really spent that much money on 'customizing' the engine, rebuild the car...?
if you spent that $$ on a factory rebuild, then sucks to be you, i believe 95-97 are the only years that that style of 2.2L was used

The 95 is OBD-I I'd make sure it has a cam sensor on it. Cuz the 96 and 97 will require one. If it dont, then you're gonna be stuck with a 95.
to answer David Ruperd, it was actually hit on the side right between the quarter panel and door...while it was parked in a drive way..........Lame! There's nothing wrong with it really other than the dent in the side.
I haven't found anything on the camshaft sensor for the '95 so it must not have one.....but if the 95 computer is swaped with the '95 engine would it still matter?
thats the only problem? get her insurance to fix the dent. why are you worried about swapping motors and all
The big thing with a '95 cavalier is they are now worth like 1500$ on bluebook at best. So in an accident like that the car is usually totaled.
ok since its a total, take the money u get, buy the car back from the insurance company- yank the motor put it in another car. part the rest out
exactly what he said. just dont tell them you just sunk 2k in the motor and body work,they will just want more.

u will also have to change the flywheel if your putting it in a 5 speed car
