I've got a bad lifter and cam on my '95 Cavalier with 2.2L engine. Is it possible to replace the camshaft without pulling the engine? At first glance I'd say no, but I'm wondering if the engine can be lowered just enough to slide the cam out through the passenger side wheel-house.
If not, how easy is it to pull just the engine and leave the transaxle behind? I've swapped and rebuilt engines on a number of RWD cars. This one looks similar in concept though the engine faces the wrong way
. I'm wondering if there are any hidden 'gotchas' or short-cuts that make the process easier.
And yes, I've searched the forums but didn't find an answer. I'm sure it's been discussed, but searching on 'pulling' 'removing' and 'swapping' of the 'motor', 'engine' or 'camshaft' didn't yield any useful results.

pulling the motor is easy. but as for your camshaft you wont be able to get it out. numerous things get in the way. i get to do the revers this week. leave the motor behind and put in yet a 3rd transmission and hope this one works correctly
