x2, if it's still under factory warranty. Looks like it's time for GM to get a new one for you, for free. Even if you had to pay, it would be better to pay the extra cash for the GM one. They generally tend to last longer than the cheapies do.

I kinda turbo'ed it and i have a system and a completely tinkered with electrical system because of an aftermarket alarm system, audio system, and gauges, and lights... so i doubt i have any kind of warranty left on anything... they would laugh at me i think... but, i bought a used one from the junk yard from a 05 cavy with 6000 miles totaled, works great, 60 bucks and they pulled it off the car... pretty good... Thanks for your help!!

It would be illegal as hell for them to deny warranty coverage on the starter because of a turbo kit. And the alarm system, stereo, gauges and lights.... they'd have to prove that it killed the starter. Doubtful that they did.

If the dealer wont cover it find a place that can rebuild the starter. Most likely the grinding noise your hearing is the drive in the starter going out. Most people call it the bendix but i was corrected on that. The starter on my 99 2.2 was acting up, would engage and disengage while trying to start the car creating a grinding sound. Cost me 30 bucks to get it rebuilt and its as good as new.
