If you have one of these check for acid running down the battery from the terminals. If you do, dont touch the terminals until you have a new battery in hand. The terminals corrode , leak acid then the terminal falls out of the battery.
Which will be still attached to the battery cable. The majority of the time its the pos terminal but on my truck both were leaking. It leaked so bad that there was a puddle on my garage floor. I went to replace it and the pos terminal fell out when I put a wrench on it.
The reason that I put this in there is I get alot of battery customers that Have delco batteries. I put interstate Batteries In, the delivery guy said that almost all of the delco batteries that he has recieved as cores were either missing a terminal or leaking acid from the terminals.

my delco battery hasn't had any issues of the like.
my delco is sitting outside beside the house and has been for over a year and its still in tact.. probably dead but in tact LOL....
i never had a problem w/ mine either. i think your just stereotyping all ac delco batteries based on one situation
I'd say he's pretty correct. I work at an Advance Auto Parts and have worked in a few repair shops. I alway cringe when replacing an original ADelco battery (The yellow label ones) because I'd say at least 45% of the time, the positive terminal likes to snap off when trying to remove the bolt and cable. I've never had the problem with the negative terminal like Joe Malechowski said he has, but it's possible.

Hmm..... 10 Delco batteries in 7 different cars over the past 12 years, never had a problem like this.
But hey, my car started itself... maybe you should all buy other cars than Cavaliers... since MY Cavalier did it, yours COULD TOO!!!
My positive terminal of my delco started to get really corroded but the terminal didn't fall off. However since side post batteries suck, I upgraded to a top post to prevent future problems.
i see delco batteries all the time with the positive end falling completly out of the battery....the acid leaks out and solidifys the battery bolt and terminal together.....than when you try to loosen it , it breaks off......
mine had an acid leak as well dealer said they have seen a number of AC Delco batteries do that.

Well if they leak acid and such, i'm surprised one of them hasn't exploded or something because leaking acid etc if the battery goes dead and you try and jump it your at risk for a fire of some kind wouldn't u. I didn't have a prob like that when i had mine but when it finally did go dead, i just got a top post battery and have been using top post batteries ever since.
yup, happened to mine too. acid out of the pos terminal, and also broke. i've seen this on a few other cavaliers too. wtf is what i say.

- Sold my beloved J in April 2010 -
The Delco in my 2002 Cavalier (build date May 02) began to
seep acid around the positive lug last month.
This would probably date the battery as slightly over 4 years-old.
After buffing and washing the corrosion, I put a solution
of baking soda on everything to stop the action of the acid.
No more Delcos...the new one is from AutoZone.
I have seen in at least once a month on vehicles that come into my dealership. That is why all of my cars have an Optima battery in them. They are gel cell so they have no acid inside them. An optima will NEVER leak acid.
I just replace mine in my 2003 Cav. Found during 60K Checkup.
I <3 my optima yellow top
ac delco PSH go optima yellow top or NOTHING!!!
I work at Autozone and can tell you Delco/Delphi batterys die so much faster then any other battery I've ever seen...
Well I, for one, am grateful to Joe for the heads up. I noticed some evidence of leakage somewhere around the positive terminal on my Delco when I installed my intake but I couldn't find the source of the leak due to the foam wrap on the battery that appeared to be soaking it up. I cleaned everything up and used baking soda to neutralize the acid. Joe's post gives me a good idea of the possible problem if the leak persists. Thanks.

I have had no problems w. AC Delco. When I worked at Advance Auto Parts, we rarely saw any Delcos, but saw bad batteries from some company called Exide(STS I think...). But most batteries seem to corrode after time anyways, I think this is based on a few bad experiences or a bad batch or something.

my car when i got it had a @!#$ty canadian tire battery that was suppose to be there top of the line one.. it started to leak within 2 weeks of owning the car, and according to the bill i have for that battery(i got all bills/service records for the car since day one... including the origianl build/option sheet!!!) it was only 4 months old...
my dad's truck has the original AC delco batter with ZERO problems and his has 167,000kms... my moms ventures has the original delco battery with 210,000kms and no problems... so in my books AC Delco battery are fine, great even...

I see some of you guys havent had any problems and others have. The next time I see the Interstate battery guy at work Ill ask him if there were a specific batch or some way to tell if yours is doomed.
