I have a 2002 cavalier that has an 8 valve sohc head. I have been wanting to upgrade to a 16valve dohc head. What are my options and where can I find something like that?

You can't, and yours is an 8 valve OHV, not OHC. If you want a DOHC engine, you have to swap the engine out for one with DOHC stock. Pretty tough to run an engine with 3 cams (2 cams in the head, and the stock one in the middle of the engine).

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!

You will need to swap out your tranny, and the entire engine for a DOHC. No simple drop in swap.
Not to be a dick, but if you don't know your engine, you probably shouldn't be trying to do a swap. You'd be better off selling your car and buying one with the engine you want.

Thanks for the help I'm sorry I didn't quite know what I had I'm kinda new to the whole cavalier thing but I very thankful that I have finally found a place to get credible advice because most places aren't too friendly to us jbody enthusiasts they are only concerned with Japanese tuners. Thank you all for your excellent help

Hmm... this post makes me wonder... could you swap the Quad 4 head from the 2.3s onto a 2.2? Somehow I doubt it buuuut.... discuss.

I was happy when I heard my car ran 10s. Then I found out that was 0-60.

2.3L is a DOHC as well...

OK, compatibilities aside, let's think about something for a minute:

How much work would it take to convert an engine from pushrod to DOHC? Think about what it means: you will have to remove most of the parts of the engine, which means removing the engine, change the timing system, timing cover, etc...you get the idea...

At this point in time, it would make more sense to replace the engine with a complete DOHC engine. Way too much involved to make such a conversion. Why would you bother wasting the time?

Again, this isn't possible, but seriously, when you think about what it would take if it was possible, why would you bother?

You have the LN2, 2.2L pushrod motor.... in a 2002.... so you have the most options in terms of swaps....

You can go to a 2.4L Twin Cam aka LD9... get a 2000-2002 motor and transmission (the same Getrag F23 you already have, but with the right bellhousing... grab the engine wiring harness and the computer at the same time, and stuff it in the car.... bam, everything else except the exhaust will hook up pretty easily.

Or, you can go to a 2.2L Ecotec... get an 02-05 motor and transmission (again, same Getrag F23 you already have, but with the right gears and case).... engine wiring and computer, bam done....

Get the stuff collected ahead of time and some friends, you could have it done in a couple of days if someone knows what they're doing....
