ANOTHER 2.3 TOPIC

i was wondering, for a min let not consider the money factor (iknow but still keep calm) what woul be more reliable for high boost, 2.3 strocked out with a 2.4 pistons, or a 2.3 block witht he blalncing shafts removed, a and a reworked 2.3 086 head with ho comp and cams, ??? just wondering

first off if your gonna spend the money on stroking a quad do it right and get custom pistons..cus i hope you know 2.4 pistons wont fit in the block(too small)
2nd..HO quads didnt have balance shafts..so personally id just get the HO and stop messing with the LO crank ...but to answer your question ..it probably isnt gonna matter...the only problem with the stroker is higher rpm..and i wouldnt use HO compression with a high boost..

If you use the 95 block and crank, you have to take off the balance shaft gear and put a normal 2.3 oil pump gear.

If we don't talk about money, I'd go with the 2.6L stroker and boost. W41cams and W41 chip. 11:1 compression with a 0.040 overbore.

Nothing is wrong with the Ho compression and boost. My friend is running a Paxton Sc on is W41 and I ran my turbo on my Ho. Tuning is the key.

i never said there was...i said with HIGH boost..just like any other application..lower compression is advisable

ok what is the highest boost any of you guys know someone has run, at what compression, and what kind of numbers did you get interms of hp trq and what kinda of quater mile tmes did they get ????

stock Lo with Ho cams, 9 psi with a T3 super 60 intercooled with TEC 2. did 282hp on the dyno and 13.2s.

what would i have to do to get it down to mid low 11's and dare i ask high 10's

You could use the 2.3 block... but it gives up about 45lbs of meat to the 2.4 block... in other words, the LD9 block is going to handel more cylinder pressure before it just hangs up the phone and explodes.

Do you self a favor... build for strength, not convienence.

2.4 block
2.3 head
7.8:1 pistons (gets you 9:1 ratio w/ 086 head)
H-beams

The only thing youll give up is the availibility of a forged crank... but a cryod crank will handel upwards of 500bhp anyway... i think maybe only 2 people on here have come remotely close to touching that figure.

WARNING : IMPORTANT MATH COMING UP - WRITE IT DOWN!

BTW, i figured that compression ratio based on a +.020 overbore.

Stock specs are 90mm x 94mm @ 9.5:1 (change units to cm for equations)

(pi .5B^2)S = 598cc Cylinder Volume

with the overbore, your looking at 604.665cc

To find Chamber Volume, (which includes quench, head gasket, etc) solve for X in the equation:

CV = CR(X) - X

where CR = piston compression ratio

in this case, factory is 9.5 so, X = 71.137cc

now the 086 head has a chamber volume thats 13cc less than the 683 head.

Now based on chamber volume (CHV), you can find your compression...

Thus:

CR = (CV + CHV)/CHV

CR = (604.665cc + (71.137cc-13cc)) / (71.137cc-13cc)

CR = (604.665cc + 58.137) / 58.137

CR = 11.4:1

So after some guess and check work, .... :

604.665cc = 7.8 X - X

X = 88.92cc

So, plugging back in:

CR = (604.665cc + 75.92cc) / 75.92cc

CR = 8.96:1

FYI -
-- 7.9:1 pistons make 9.1:1 compression.
-- 9:1 pistons with the 086 head make 10.66:1 compression (a great nitrous combo)

alot easier would have been to go to www.rosspistons.com and enter the numbers and it would have take 1 min.

lol...... got to love the ross pistons site..... I use it all the time

I believe the 2.3 block is plenty strong for this application........ I have yet to see one fail w/o motivation from something else breaking first.

From what Protomec has said, the 95 2.3 block doesn't have the 'meat' to do the pump swap. I haven't seen one in person, but I trust what he says.

If your aiming for 11's....... either block can do it. Its power to weight you need to address (look at SunCavi for example)....

Get your car down to 2500lbs (race weight w/ driver) and aim for 300-350hp...... should get you mid 11's with a decent driver......

HP and 1/4 mile calculator
another one
they're not 100% accurate..... but they give you the idea......

A good example the 2.3 block can run 11 sec, look at Killerquad.
