THe theft light comes on sometimes on my 96 cavalier 2.2L. Like every 10th start and it stays on until the next time i come to start it. THere is no remote start / alarm or keyless entry on this car. And the cd player is from a 99 Z24 and works fine and never asked for a pin code. Im trying to sell this car and can't have that light comming on for no reason. the car runs fine even with it on, just dont know why. Is there any way to disable the light, besides putting black tape over it.

Get a new key cut. That theft light is coming on because the R-code (measure of the resistance in the key) doesn't match the code the car is looking for closely enough.
