wondering about this topic.. i know the 01 2.4 isn't compatible with a 98.. what about a 99?
my buddy has a 98 sunfire and got a motor for a 99 sunfire.. and he's wondering if it'll work as-is...

97 and 01 is a big gap .. i did see that topic. but the 98 and 99 2200 didn't change so i thought the same would be true of the 2.4.. either way thx

ok ok ok yes it is compatable. i went through this a few months back with a different org member. ive got a 01 2.4 in my 97 grand am. and i have put a 98 2.4 in a 00 cav. it will work. there is quite a few different routes you can actually go. u say he got a 99 motor and has a 98 car. ok the only diff is the injectors. 99 has no egr and some 99 exhaust mani's are different. if the same u dont have to change. but the injectors you do have to change DEFF. now u can run the car w/out a egr it wont hurt anything but the cel will stay on. so to not have that you can always port the head for the egr valve. and put the egr system on with the 98 intake mani. or you can just buy a egr simulator and wire it up. right now my grand am had no egr and no simulator. my cel is on but i really dont care. i payed 250 for the car and 450 for the motor. a 97 wit 88k on the body for 700 would u complain about a lil orange light?
