I've been thinking about getting some bfgoodrich radial ta's for my car, does anyone know, are they a pretty good tire. I have the standard touring ta's on there now the 15 inch wheels, i'm not crazy about the touring tires does anyone know is the radial ta just an all season radial tire or is it a racing/street tire.
The standart Radial T/A is an S or T rated all season tire. The G-Force Sport is a street "tuner" type of tire with all around hadling and is designed for Sport Compacts. The G-Force T/A KD series are true performnace tires that vary upon application. See
BF Goodrich Tires for more information on there tires.
I just bought some BFG G-Forces off of acav2envy, and there really nice tires.
They even handle good in wet road conditions.

The radial t/a's are a good tire, but it depends what you want from them. they are only S- and T- rated, but they are designed and have been updtated with compounds like an H- rated tire.
they have been out for about 20+ years now, which is why you see them on alot of rebuilt muscle cars.
the radial t/a is a good trie and will grip decent, and in my opinion probably perform close to the OE BFG Touring T/A's. they should grab a bit better, but may not be as smooth. if you ar looking for a smooth tire or one to grab really good, id probably go with something else, but they are a good all around tire.
Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!
Whitegoose thanks for the advice, i have seen the radial ta's on a lot of rebuilt muscle cars such as the older pontiac gto's and what not . Awhile back and this was on another car i had not my cavy i had a set of michelins i think they were like the x radial series or something wound up spending like $340 for the set of 4 which i felt was outrageous but someone later told me they are also one of the best tires around, i'm at a point where i want a halfway good tire but don't want to spend any more than i absolutely have to. They have shops around here where they sell new/used tires but i've never tried them so i am not sure how good they are.
what's a good highway tire , if you drive on the freeway a lot what tires are good for that kind of use how much do they cost best to worst etc
I would make sure the tires are rated well for rain if you're highway a lot. Hydroplaning is not fun. Well, it is....no it's not. Good adrenaline though.

Nah Hydroplanings no fun, it sucks that's how i nearly killed someone and totalled a car i had a while back the road was slick and i was speeding you can better believe that when it rains now i go under the posted speed limit
Are Kelly Springfield tires any good.
niteowl, go with a BFG touring tire, something like the Premier Touring/ Precept Touring/ Control T/A
they are called different names at different places. my work calls them Premier Touring, but they are built off of the casing of the Control T/A and sold as the Premier only at Costco.
they are smooth and cheap, and arent 20 years old like te radial t/a.
have fun

Goose, The Radial T/A isn't 20 years old. The name is but BFG changed the tread pattern several times in the tires life span. I know cause they used to be all I ran. Back in the late 80's they were one tread pattern and that changed in the 90's and then it changed again to what they have now. they only kept the sidewalls the same for looks.
In fact i have a set of the T/A's on my 15's for my car that I use for winter driveing. Personaly I love them and IMO they can't be beat for the money. The Touring T/A's my Cavi came with lasted no time at all so I'd say pass on them.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
Yeah Jack that's what my car came with the regular touring ta's i'm not crazy about them at all, then i had to get a couple of tires because the dealer i bought the car from renigged and didn't put a couple new tires on like they said they were going to . So i had to get 2 new tires and they wound up giving me the precept touring which i don't know is a whole lot better seems like that kind of tire would be better on a porsche or a cadillac i was also thinking about the kelly chargers do u know r they good .
I just got my wife bfgoodrich traction ta tires for her 2000 cavalier. The tires are great in my personal two cents worth. They handle 10times better than the stock goodyears. (base model cavlalier). They are great in wet traction. My wifes abs hasn't kicked in since she got them, with the stock goodyears her abs triggered a lot on just slightly wet roads. With the light winter we have had here in PA with really only one snow fall with 7 inches of snow they handled great in the snow as well. They were just a tad less traction than my snow tires that are on my 2004 cavalier but very comp. for an all season tire. Once my stock goodyears wear out on my 2004 cavalier I will not hesitate about getting another set.
I would suggest you look very hard at the traction TA tire. For the price and the tread life alone should make it a top 3 contender.
you want it WHEN??
Kd approximately how much did you pay for the entire set do you remember, because i think some places the price of the tire is based on whether you have like 13 inch 14 inch and so on and the smaller your tire/wheel the cheaper the tire. I Know some places out here they have sales like 4 tires as low as $79.99 $99.99 or whatever that's the kind of deal i'm looking for, i had another car awhile back spent like $335 or 340 for a set of 4 though they were michelins which come to find out later is one of the best tires out there but at this point yeah i'm looking to not spend any more than i absolutely have to and yet still get a good tire ya know.

The BFGoodrich Traction T/As have great ratings on TireRack.com. Myself, I would get the G-Force Sports. Not too much snow here in Hawaii.

I got them from the tirerack for 256.96 delevered. I then paided a local shop to mount and balence them. 15bucks each tire. Stock 14" steel rims. SO for four tires and mounting and bal. I paided just under 300 bucks for them. Since then I have been looking at shops i.e. sears, jackwillams, pepboys for the same tire and most times the same tire sells for about 80.00 to 85.00 mounted and balenced. But that dosen't enclude the tax, which i saved on because tirerack is out side of PA. So I feel good about my purchace all the way around.
Each tire was 51.00 I also got the road hazor warrenty for 24.48
228.48 for tires and hazord
28.48 for shipping
you want it WHEN??
I don't know about you but, Tires is one of the very few things that I will NOT skimp on. Brakes are the other. They will help you in emergency lane changes sudden brakeing. Traction. They might save your life. You might avoid an accident and ask yourself HOW IN THE HELL DID I NOT HIT THEM? In this instance YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Spend a bit more money on a good tire and you will be patting yourself on the back till they wear out.
you want it WHEN??
One last thing. they were size 195/70r14
you want it WHEN??
ok well i have the 195 65 15's so and they have a tire rack store not very far from me maybe i'll go check them out sometime
I've used the Radial T/A on a couple of cars, they were ok but not outstanding. Fairly grippy but didn't last as long as i expected them to for the price. I've went with Michelin
since and they are a little pricy, but outstanding wet traction and last about 80,000 miles
if you keep them inflated and the front end aligned. I ran one set of "x" michelin's 95,000 miles before they were shot.
My 2 cents worth.
Don
Yeah Don that's what i had on another car i had a set of michelin X radials as i mentioned before, i think i paid like $340 for a set of 4 and that was like at costco they weren't bad just the price i felt was outrageous .
Check them out at TireRack.com. I bought Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's (one size up) based on the reviews I read there.
I forgot i put the Firestone Indy 500's on my other car, 1 size up as well. I've put 25000 miles on them thus far. About 1/3 worn down. I'm not a fan of the BFG Radial T/A, previous bad experience with premature wear. Darned things didn't last more than 25000 miles and would slide like crazy very easily.
