Ok Heres my problem, today I installed a new cd player in my 05 cavalier. To do this I had to undo the radio bezel(duh) and instead of unhooking the wires I just tried to let it dangle on the steering wheel, had a big problem keeping it there It would fall and turn on my blinkers and windshield wipers. During the install I somehow blew the fuse in the cd player
all my connections were connected.. So I put in a new fuse and it worked fine after that but my dome light wasnt coming on, I thought I somehow may have blown the fuse while searching for switched power for the CD player. So I go out to my car earlier to leave and it starts up fine, Switch my head lights on and they dont work, domelight dont either.
So I pull the "Battery 1 fuse from underneath the hood and its blown, so I put in another and it did the same thing. I disconnected the CD player and was fooling around with a paperclip to if unplugging the CD player would help.
No luck it would get hot, But It is only when the lights are switched on.If I switch them off and put in the paperclip it stays cool. Allthough the cars battery is now dead so I dont know if it will start up.
This has got me stumped. Could I maybe be grounding out a wire when I reinstalled the steering column cover? Or if I damaged the headlight switch would this be happening?
Trouble shooters?

definitely sounds like a bad ground somewhere.

thats what I was thinking..It would have to be in the headlights then somewhere I assume

Did you unplug the battery while installing the CD player?
Blown.

yep, but I reconnected it to make sure the cd player worked before putting everything back in.

sounds like you need a multimeter. start probing for grounds on the power lines. with the battery disconnected, of course.

I just got in from screwing with it a little more, It turns out that it only blows my (batt. 1) fuse when headlights are actually turned on. I dont beleive there is any wires that have to do the headlights near the h/u though?

depends on the CD player, some have the illumination hookup to turn on when you flip on the headlights.
id rip the whole cd player out, and start over from scratch. with it out, see if you blow fuses. if not. then redo the wiring in the harness to the deck, and see how she goes.
I'd do what Eazy said, just take it out and try again. You may have messed something up while connecting the wires.

actually my problem was that a thin paper clip cannot stand 40 amps of power which will make it HOT, All I did was replace my fuse and it worked perfectly.
Now if I didnt take the whole interior dash apart
Darn

Thanks, too bad I had to rip it down to the skeleton in 30 degree weather to find that out
