ITS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO BELIVE
Friday, January 27, 2006 8:21 PM
Just today my brother was hit head on with his 91' caddy by a pos honda his exact words. Just so happens I recently had posted a thing about putting a caddy motor in a 95' sunfire coupe but didn't have the motor. So I asked him what he was going to do with the car which isn't in really bad shape at all cause I've seen way worse so he gave me the car and now the impossible is in progress. I don't really give a rats @ss about what you all think but I'd like to see what kind of response I get now that I'm half way there! If this is the 6th post I've made that doesn't make sense to anyone don't even bother reading my poor f-ing grammar $hit... I will have pics up soon!!

I would'nt say getting a motor is half way there but good luck with it. What caddy motor is it anyways?

You're definitely not halfway there. What kind of motor is it and what kind of shape is it in?

Well for starters, you'll have to think about motor mounts, braces, and ECU and relevant electrical systems. I'm not very well experienced with complete engine swaps but you may also want to think about suspension and whether or not the engine could be supported by the car. Do a search for the member "Raven," he installed a s/c'd 3800 engine from a Pontiac in his J but it'll give you a good idea of the process and how much it may wind up costing.

Who will be doing the work? How much do you have to spend? Do you have access to help other than the Org if you may need it?

sounds like there's going to have to be a RWD conversion.
good luck to you man.

I didn't even think of that. If the Caddy was RWD, you're not even 1/10000th of the way there, bro. You're going to need a FWD engine in order to pull this off in a cost effective manner. If you don't care about cost then do it up, I'd like to see it done. It'll be unique and that's what I like.

if it was a RWD, the firewall, floor, and the trunk is going to have to be cut out to make room for the tranny, driveshaft, and new rear axle. the strut mounts, gas tank, etc. are going to have to be relocated.
a custom tunnel is going to have to be fabricated for the driveshaft, so that means a new center console, and figuring out what to do with the rear seats.
not to mention, the braking system is going to have to be heavily modified.
you can do it, just going to be a LOT of money.

Trust me I have the right amount of cash flow and I know the right people who can assist me on my new idea. S. T. of I.C.A of Arizona has me loaded with all the right stuff. Just getting started will take some time after I graduate from High School this May 21st I will be getting the ness. items for the extreme mods. The caddy is Front wheel drive for starters and needs a tune up and the computer might need some dignostics work but it runs great and starts great it doesn't use any oil either. The motor has 180,000 miles on it yeah it is a lot but those cars can be known to last a heck of a long time.

What do you mean by that statement?

Good luck on the project, man. If you have any questions, post em up, and be sure to take progress pics of the swap for everyone on here to see and appreciate. I'm not sure what else you might want to look into besides computer, wiring the computer and basically everything to your J's wiring, custom motor mounts, and custom subframe braces. Do you know if you have enough room in the engine bay for the engine?

It doesn't burn oil is what I meant to have stated. I'm sorry if I come off to you as a jerk. But I haven't had a good chance yet to take the proper steps in measuring up everything yet.

whoa talk about hitting the wrong quote button . I'm not with it tonight...

but since I @!#$ up hitting the button. I'll say it myself.

I agree with darkstars,

What is it with your other posts? Are you trying to be a jerk or something? I'm sorry man, but you and I are about the same age. I'm not even that much of a jerk.

Dude, I've been going through your posts. a lot of the fights you're picking with some of the more credible members of the forum are just childish.

Don't get me wrong you're welcome in the forum but try to conduct yourself in a manner that's productive. This is a pretty good place to learn about the j platform if you really want to, nobody appreciates how you're acting right now.

Don't post b.s man, all it does is makes you look really immature and I think you've pissed off enough people already.

If you ARE GOING to invest this type of moeny into it.. why not Use a northstar, the cost of the engine will be nothing in comparision to the price of the job....

If you want to try and do this swap, go ahead but I have to say this...

Why do people feel the need to always use parts that are given to them that wasn't made to work or that's gonna be a HUGE money pit? I mean granted, you can get a motor...but you're gonna spend all this money to put it in your car for what? To have a V8? As cool as it might sound, it's gonna be a huge pain in the ass. Our engine bays can barely fit a V6 and you want to squeeze an even bigger motor in. Not to mention the weight of the motor could really mess with our suspensions.

Also, you're talking about a V8 Motor from a Cadillac that is 15 years old...say you do this swap and then 2,000 miles down the road you have engine problems. Like you said, this technically is an wrecked cars motor so you never know how the motor reacted to the collision. What if that happends? You end up spending a bunch of money for someone to rip open your V8 motor and fix the problem. Heck, alot of places might not even want to TOUCH your motor because of the fact that it's not supposed to be in your vehicle or the J-body platform, period.

And for your sakes, I hope you're talking about a FWD 4.9L V8 and not a RWD.

Maybe it's me, I believe in using motors within a reasonable state of mind. Even the 3800 S/C is reasonable in my head even though it's a tight difficult swap to do. Other than that, I don't see the point.

If you wanted to be an even better builder (or car engineer) you could build a 4 cylinder motor from top to bottom and boost it and run more power than that V8 motor if you were that creative. But whatever, it's your money, your time and if it doesn't work, your failure.

/end rant

I just decided to give you the benefit of the doubt and ignore other posts you've made in the past that others say were rude and ignorant. Now you're starting to act stupid with my boy, Rod (Inari), and that ain't cool. Start posting logical statements rather than childish banter.
