They put a Northstar V8 into an 80s VW Golf. They had videos of it running. The first time out they ran it on stock front discs. By the time they got back to the shop they were shot.
LOL....READ THE WHOLE THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey shut up... im new
.
They had a 32v Northstar at my local junkyard. But they want like $1,500 for it... I always wanted to put in in the rear of a Rabbit pickup.
It is possible, you just need to find the person willing to fork out the cash for it. I know my engine swap is putting me in the poor house, so it wont be me
As for the bellhousing, its not even close to the 2200,3100,3400 and 3800's. The sterter is at the top, it goes under the lower intake plenum on the northstar. So for a 5 speed swap, you would need a custom bellhousing.
It cant be relocated, you have to get a custom bellhousing.
SOMEONE DO IT!!!!! I want to see it. Then once it is done, (a 5-speed 32 valve all-aluminum V8 Cavalier), I want to shake their hand!!
Oh and then drive it.....hehe
theres a guy who put a northstart into a fiero here in MN
If pic don't work click here last pics on page
sorry if the pics don't work, I didn't preview becuase i have dial up and its taking forever
isnt' the northstar a POS?
no, but the tranny is.....
So then the only major problem you might run into is the bellhousing fitting?
As far as room in the engine bay there is enough for the engine and the trans?

What measurements do you want...my buddy has one in his garage that I could check out whenever I get over there next.

No! The Northstar engine is not a POS! The 32v Nrthstar engine was rated one of the top ten performance engines in the world! That is why it is so commenly used in Hotrods and top end vehicles! The 4t80-E transmission is also known to be bullitproof! If you are looking for high hp and tourque out puts and have alot of cash, XMS is currently developing a N* supercharger! The tested product averaged a 102 Hp gain! Thats a total of around 400hp! The estimated price is anywhere from $3,200-$4,000! With nitrous it would be a rocket! Anyone would be lucky to support a N* engine and tranny under their hood! In a J-body, really anything is possible if you have enough $! But is it worth all the $ and fabrication! I would like to think so! The Northstar has had problems with the headbolts but that can be solved with a timesert Kit! Here is a guy who is using a 6-speed manual ransmission with his N*!

Actually for the starter you could move it to the outside of the engine . I would try relocating the starter to a more accessible spot . I don't like the idea of having to remove the intake to replace the starter . Relocating it would make it easier to replace and give you more options on which starter you wanted yo use . For the hole in the back of the engine ? Make a block off plate that woul;d bolt into the original starter bolt holes .
But they do custom reflash's for the PCM for the N/S . and I am sure you can have the auto parameters removed . Hook that up with a Muncie HM282 ( built ) and you should have something that will basically sit under the hood of a J-body . I would use a full subframe and have the motor and tranny mounts attached to that . But it would basically be like setting up a Fiero for a V8 . I think to save space I would remove the A/C system and relocate the air cleaner .

i've read of people putting them in fieros too. i'm looking into putting one in my cavy. found some rough measurements of the engine and did a few on my car, seems it'll fit. (couldn't get good measurements cuz the 2.2 is still in it). as far as the supercharged N*'s...the 06 STS-V is putting out 469HP/439 torque. the XLR-V has 443HP/414 torque. i'm thinking of slapping either the L37 (300HP) or the LH2 (320HP). not sure if all N*'s are the same measurementwise. the ones i found just said "northstar". i just need to decide on which one to go with. the LH2 was modified in 04 to be RWD and AWD. an AWD cavy!! talk about one of a kind
i'll be sure to take lots of pics for you all
btw, this is where i got my info from if any of you are curious.
gm northstar and other engines
Check out V6Z24.com. Colin (v6h.o.) is doing that swap into a 2nd gen. It fits, bareliy, and will take quite a bit of modification.
wasnt colin going to do this swap in his 92 sunbird?
