can anyone give me some info as to what exactly is needed besides the engine itself to swap a 2.4 from a 2000 fire GT to a 99 Z24, or at least what changes were made from the 99 to 00 model year?

The only changes are to the intake manifold and the first O2 sensor.
The 00-02 motors have a slightly 'de-tuned' intake manifold.. a small lip under the throttle body. The 99 motor didn't have it. You can remove it with a dremel if you're worried about it
The 99 has a single wire O2 sensor in the exhaust manifold. The 00-02 cars have a two-wire sensor. The manifold itself is the same, though.

Don't forget the one wire/two wire knock sensor...

thx for the replies! my motor will be in by sunday, i cant wait to be able to drive my car again ....
I thought the knock sensor changed when they up the compression a small amount in the 2000+ (which in includes mid 99's).

Don't some of the earlier 99's have EGR?
Apparently, but no one has ever seen one in a J-car.
I've heard of them being in N-cars though.
The knock sensor is the sme 96-98... and again the same 99-02... I don't know which is larger and oine or two wire.. but the difference is between 98 and 99 years, not 99 and 00.

Ok well as for the knock sensor. If whay John said is correct. The 96-99 2.4 is a 1 wire knock sensor, and the threads are bigger. The 99+ is a 2 wire knock sensor with a smaller thread. We just installed a 2001 2.4 in a 97, and we had to drill and tap the hole for the knock sensor. I have a friend with a 99 2.4, and I will check his knock sensor to verify this info.
Oh and he has a EGR on his 99.

Some other guy on the forums a few months back said he had one in his driveway.. then he disappeared. ROFL

Ok I was wrong his was a 99 auto 2.4. Never had a EGR, and he had a wrist pin snap they put a 2000 motor in it under warranty. Sorry. I still plan to check the knock sensor. I would think that they changed the knock sensor when they changed the computers (because wiring was envolved). Which we always say was 2000, but actually was mid year 99 when they also changed the impedence of the injectors. I think this is a good thread here with some good info.
