whats EGR?
How is it used and whats its used for?
exhaust gas recirculater it basically get the unburnt gas from the exhaust it s emission equipment.
^^ to add on: The main purpose of the egr valve is to reduce the effective compression ratio of the engine. What this does is lower NOx, and improve gas milage.
It is open during cruising speeds and off idle.

just one fix to your statement...... it doesnt effect the
compression ratio it effects the
air/fuel ratio..... since its a gas, it takes up the same amount of space as the normal oxygen that would be drawn in....... so the exhaust gas DISPLACES the fresh air, changing the a/f raitio...... if it was a liquid, it could in theory change the compression ratio, but it would RAISE it not lower it.
otherwise, good info.
