Does the suspension (struts/springs) of a 1997 Grand AM V6 fit on a 1996 Cavalier z22 and vice versa?
No. And there's no such thing as a Z22.

Thanks for the answer.
As for the z22 that's the Coupe name in Canada.
No it isn't.
Do some searching. It's just some sticker some dealers put on to try to make the car look special. There was never a real Z22 trim level. Not from GM Canada. Not from GM anywhere.
Do some searching on the topic. You'll be enlightened.
No need for this to turn into a big debate. heh.
n-bodies (Grand Am, Alero, etc.) use different spring rates and damping levels due to their different size. They're not the same size and won't bolt up.
There's a post here about everything that's involved in swapping over some brake parts from one, but they're not just easily interchangable either.
92-97.5 Front springs are interchangable with 95-05 Cavy front springs IIRC.
The GAM only weights 200 lbs more than the cavy. Everything else is different.
The front strut height and dimentions are the same, but the GAM has steering on the strut, cavy has steering on the knuckle. I suppose you could cut it off or something if you were really determined.
The rear suspension is just totally different.
rear strut mounts are the same part number for third gen J's and some grand ams.

Really. That's funny considering 92-98.5 GAMs don't have rear struts. They have shocks. I own one.
98.5-05 use a strut, but it's different (GAMs have a larger diameter strut and smaller diameter spring).
Pre 92, I dunno. Might be the same there, but that's outside the scope of this question.
Also front strut mounts may be the same for many different years, but I'm not sure.
