hey im wondering if any companies such as jc whitney or addco makes j-body front and rear anti-sway bars? is it true also that putting larger size anti-sway bar in the rear will inhibit more oversteer leaving the front stock? and vice versa-larger front with stock rear for more understeer? also and lastly are levels of difficulty if i do it alone and the price ranges of them? thasnk so much in advance.

fst - those prices are hideous, and shipping isn't even added on yet. move along to another vendor, and quickly!
install of a rear sway bar is generally easy as a one person project, though this can depend on fitment of the pieces. install of a front bar is considerably more involved. if you're comfortable with it, by all means have at it. best bet is to get some buddies to help out with that one, though...or have a shop do it, if you can afford their labour rates.
i'm sure the FAQ will be more informative and educated a read as re: over- and understeer, so i'll just not go there.

thanks jux, i saw what lenko laid out for the faq, but i already knew about that, cause i googled the info. my preferance is to make the tail of the cavalier turn out a bit more for better cornering. i understand that counter steer is vital, im quite aware of that. if i see things get too dangerous i can take off the sway bar anytime. i also know that increasing the diamter of the sway bar tightens the axles. my questions is, addco has the rear sway bar at 1" or roughly 25.4mm. is that enough for offsetting the handling to make the car become more 'loose'? i found places online that sell like summit racing for the rear/front sway bar for like 150 bucks plus 9 bucks shipping, not bad. what do you think?
*Devil Z*
You have a Z so you have a front Bar, it is 22mm. The 1" bar should be enough for you
acidburn1022, u have the rk sport rear sway bar, does the car tend to oversteer a bit on hard conrnering, especially when u do autox?
*Devil Z*
If you have the RK rear, then your sitting on neutral. 22 front and rear.
Although still stilght understeed just by the build of your american automobile.
If you want the kick around, you'll want the 25.4 mm rear
(25.4mm= 1 inch standard math conversion table)
And the complimentary reat tie bar.
But also too, you'll want front a-arm bushings, and a front subframe brace.
The sfb will help a lot.
And you can sell the RK rear in the meantime.
Have fun,

Its pretty neutral with my setup.
If you add some trail braking you can bring the car around, skill can bring any kind of cornering.....even with no rear sway bar you can bring the car around....
Event is a great guy to talk to if you have questions!
Where can you get the rk bar, I didn't see it on their site or karo's.

I think RK doesn't carry it anymore.
And actually, Addco makes a 7/8" (22mm) and 1" (25.4mm) rear bars.
Or of course there's the Eibach kit but you' have to buy the set.

We carry the Sway bars also. Eibach set has always been a very popular choice.

I think eibach made a poor combination of swaybars. The front bar is bigger than the rear.
I would only get a rear sway bar. An addco with a tie bar would add too much oversteer in my opinion.
When I had front and rear addco bars the car would understeer on me untill I added the tie bar. Before that I had the addco rear and 18mm front bar and the car had too much oversteer. My car is pretty neutral now. I just trail brake to bring the rear of the car around if I need to.
I think Summit Racing carries the addco bars. Sometimes you see them cheap on ebay. Also keep an eye in the classifieds. I picked up a new addco front bar for 75 and two strut bars, the tie bar, and addco rear bar for $150 out of there.
Yeah,
But I think across the board in general, the Eibach kits arebigger front than rear.
I remember something crazy for a Grand Prix like 34mm front 19mm rear or some junk.
I think with your 18mm front, yeah the oversteer is a little more prevelent.
When I had with the 22mm front and 25.4mm rear. The ride was nuetrla to a little over.
But adding the tie bar for sure help to tip the scale to oversteer a little.
Oh well, as long as Turbo Tech has them
I didn't forget about the header

ok for now im gonna see if i can get my hands on the addco rear bar and possibly look into the rear tie bar as will....if the addco alone makes the car oversteer a bit, then im satisfied and can hold off on the rear tie bar. jegs sells the rear sway bar for 150 plus 9 for S7H a good deal thus far. i also do check often in the classified for an opportunity but none yet.

I just recently installed the Eibach kit, and i have nothing but good things to say about it. I havn't found if it oversteers or under, because i get tossed around in the car well before they break loose
I have the addco rear with a stock front 03 sunfire model 1SB.
I also have AGX's all around.
I can get a little bit of understeer if I tap the brakes, or get the car way off balance. Otherwise the car is fairly nuetral.

are the 96-98 body of the cavalier different, if any, than the 99-03? i looked at a few sites such as addco and they placed the 99(which i have) with the 00+ models. but still have the same size and and diameter with the 96-98 versions, just a different series number for the sway bar? also this site, which i found and had the same categorization placed the 99 into the 00+ models
http://www.performancecenter.com/autoparts/addco/anti-sway_bars/add02081u.html
and heres the 96-98 link
http://www.performancecenter.com/autoparts/addco/anti-sway_bars/addk1-638-0u.html
the main difference on the site i provided is that they placed the 99 along with the 00+ models because the rear sway bars goes only up to 7/8in or 22mm while the pre 00+ were 1in or 25mm. on the addco site they had 1in for all the years, 96-03? the site, performancecenter, has a good price for the addco, excluding shipping if any im gonna call to confirm, so i want to make sure that the 96-03 body are the same so i can use the 1in size instead of the 7/8in for cornering maneuverablilty. sorry if anyone is either annoyed or aggrevated with my frequent noob questions, thanks in advance.
*Devil Z*
actually disregard the last post, i realized that it'll fit onto any of the vehicles from 96-03

....im gonna go and see if i can get a hold of the rear sway bar from jegs. thanks everyone
*Devil Z*
They should fit from any year. I'm not sure why Addco lists different part numbers from 95-98 and 99+.
do you know where i could get the rear tie bar if i would need it in the future? im assuming jegs would have it, but they dont have it listed on their online set, but i did request for their sport compact and high performance catalog though, so it might be in there hopefully.
*Devil Z*
this might be counterproductive to your search, but i'll mention it anyway.
one the first of my 3rd gens, i used an old school hellwig rear sway. 7/8" diameter, i believe. i really enjoyed that a lot more than the 1" addco i used on the later 3rd gen.
but then again, the hellwig bar was paired with intrax springs, whereas the addco bar was paired with sportline springs. you make the call...

Someone explain oversteer and understeer in more detail for me. I know i have the addco rear 1" and stock front sway bar with upgraded bushings and A-Arm bushing and the rear is a lot harder to go out on me.
