Change rear and front brakes
Tuesday, October 25, 2005 8:56 AM
I've seen a guide on this forum before on how to change front and rear pads/shoes with pictures. Will someone be able to find this for me because I can't

Thanks,

Front:
1. Jack car up. Take tire off (5 lug nuts).
2. Use 3/8 allen wrench (or equivilent), remove 2 caliper pin on back side of caliper.
3. Pry off caliper, it will be stuck. Do not let it hang by the hose!
4. Replace pads. Replace rotors if desired. Rotors will be stuck, use a hammer (gently)
5. Put stuff back on the exact same way it came off, in the opposite order it came off of course.

Rear:
1. Jack car up. Take tire off (5 lug nuts).
2. Use hammer / prybar / screwdrivers / whatever to get the drum off, it's stuck.
3. The shoes have one bolt each, and a mess of springs. Do these one side at a time, so you can use the other side as a reference, to put it all back together correctly.
4. Replace whatever, I highly recommend cleaning it all thoughtly with brake cleaner.
5. Put stuff back on the exact same way it came off, in the opposite order it came off of course.

It's really not that hard if you take your time, use the opposite side as reference, and have plenty of patience.
