Help needed quickly with the Toyota 2.4Z!!!!!!!!!!
Tuesday, September 27, 2005 12:19 PM
I need brakes for the front and phoned up a place over here in the UK that specialises in Chevrolet parts and the guy wants to know if the brakes on a Toyota Cavalier are different to those on a Chevy Cavalier cuz the Toyota is RHD???

Any ideas??

Its a 96 Cavalier 2.4Z (Genunine Toyota) has the 2.4 twin cam in it and is an auto.

Also the VIN on the car doesn't all check out (i checked it on the sites decoder and i'm puzzled!!!)

Vin:

HG3JH12T8T7000106

Sure the first dikgit should be J for Japan!!

Please help guys, i need these brakes soon and the VIN is confusing me!!!

Ian

I doubt the brakes are any different.

I'm sure this post will get moved to the appropriate forum too.

Ups, rare VIN#. You should verify it because it is not normal. It should start 1G1J. Anyway I want to add a little. Aparently H is for Africa. I don't know if GM has built the toyota cavalier outside Americas. Following is a link that helps decode VIN numbers except digits four to eight that describes your body style and trim. Go and see what I mean.

HG3JH12T8T7000106

H = Africa (Should be 1 for US or J for Japan)
G = GM
3 = Oldsmobile (Should be 1 for Chevrolet or other number for toyota)
JH = J is for cavalier and H could be for Z24 as in 2002
1 = 2 door coupe
2 = Active belts
T = 2.4 Twin Cam
8 = Check digit with no meaning
7 = Fujisawa Japan or Lordstown Ohio (This is very important in this particual VIN#)
000106 is the serial number of the car

Please note that the production plant is 7 that could mean Fujisawa Japan or Lordstown Ohio. Also there is a mistery with digits 1 (Africa) and 3 (Oldsmobile)

Interesting, if somebody knows a little more please help.

The first 100 usually don't fall into the general publics hand IIRC.

Damnit, I wish this one would DIE!! it is NOT TRUE

7 = Lordstown, that's it. Not Japan.
