Stock feel

Ok, i searched around a little bit to see before i posted this. But i couldn't really find anything useful. I've heard of alot of people cutting they're stock springs. Is that not a good idea? The thing is, i want like a one inch drop all around at the most, and i wouldn't mind not having the performance of upgraded supsension right now. I just dont want a ridiculous wheel gap. Could i cut my stock springs down like 1 inch and have it ride like it was stock?

theres plenty of choices without half arsin a suspension.

and no...if you cut a spring you screw up the spring rates....

theres no way you can perfectly cut a spring to where all corners spring rates will match.

And besides that, when you cut your springs and leave your stock struts/shocks on, you're effecting your ride quality and your dampering. Your stock struts/shocks are meant to absorb so much and have a certain amount of distance between the strut and the top of the cylinder. When you shorten the space in the cylinder, you are shortening the amount of room you have to absorb which will result in bottoming out and terrible ride feel.

Also with cut springs, since your spring rates are shot, you will continue to bottom out and bounce. Put it this way, your stock suspension was designed to do one specific thing on one specific height.

Now if you want to drop your car and have a good ride feel, you have to spend a good amount of money and buy quality parts. If you need help from any of us, just ask and we will be happy to suggest some things for you. First you have to find out how low you want to be, what kind of springs you want (springs or coilovers) and what reasonable money range you want to spend on.

Yeah.. Cutting stock can be a band-aid when you need something right now, and only until you can do it right. I would also never cut more than 3/4 of a turn off, any more and you're screwing thing up too far to be safe. Read the posts above.

Don't cut your spring its not a good alternative. The I'll do it now and change it later thing you will end up causing more damage and paying more to fix it than you would have to have done it right the first time.

can you imagine if people asked for penile enlargements and doctors cut corners and half arsed stuff.... just for the moment?????

"ehhh well just cut here and add a piece of block legos for the time being until we can find a suitable fill in donor piece"

was thinking about all the things we do on our cars today what it would be like if people half arsed stuff....

mayo for motor oil....

pogo sticks for shocks and struts......

the list went on and on at work.

Bottom Line what everybody is saying .... NO !!!! Even I went with Eibach on Stock Shocks & Struts and Believe me the ride quality was harsh & bouncy awful ride ... but when I went with KYB's AGX & Eibach Pro-Kits.... It rides beautifully ... I couldn't be more happier ... Just my 0.02 cents .... Just save up your money and listen to everybody here ... They are all correct ...

You have to always remember, you want quality parts for a cheap price not cheap quality parts for a cheap price.

Struts depend on how low your car is going to be. AGXs are suggested up to 1.5 inch drop, anything lower people get Koni Yellows.
