Sorry but i gotta ask.. Tein Basics

Ok i recently had my car on the shop lift and i was checking it out.. I need new front strut mounts and front struts on my 96 Z. Well i figured i mise well be smart about it any replace them all.. then i thought why not go for a good upgrade. I was planning on Ground Control Coils and Yellows. but i dont wanna have to modify anything in the shop to get them to fit for certain shop reasons. I was thinking Tein Basic Coils.. i kno ill need to get some 00 mounts. My question is. is there any other modification? ive read some posts in searches and havent really heard about any modification but i wanna be sure. Also what concerns me is that a friend of mine has them on his 04 Sunfire and he said he has gone through 5 strut mounts cuz they keep breaking... is that cuz he doesnt have them installed correctly or is this a problem with the Tein Basics? As for the ride i read there stiff.. no big deal.. I figured they would be.. lowered ull loose comfort.. i kno that.. The one thing i liked about them is they seemed like a bolt in replacement(with 00 mounts of course) and something that could be done in a couple good hours. Plus i want my car lowered.. tired of looking like i could pull out a truck thats stuck..Plus lowering before rims is a must.. I guess im basically just looking for peoples preferences.. their problems.. and do you think i would be very pleased with them? Thanks and dont flame me on searching, i did.. it didnt answer all my questions and i wanted to make sure on them cuz those posts were old...something could have changed since then

O also how much will the 00 mounts cost new and do i need front and rear ones? Thanks

i use them...stiff for sure, well worth the money...quality product....as for the strut mounts...how low does he have them? if theyre right down as low as they go, the strut wont be able to take much impact so something will...leading to the strut mounts.

as for modification...none needed, they pop right in no problems.

I dont kno how low he has them. he has the Bomex kit so i wouldnt think to far.. maybe 2" or so... Do you have any problems getting them to be the same height on each side? I will have to go through the shop and get the 00 top mount and spring seat too. Anyone kno where they sell them cheaper than Gravana? Also do i have to lower the rear more than the front to make it sit level? instead of the rear raked up.

2" is a hell of a drop. I wouldn't go past 1.5" myself. But I go for performace over looks anyway.

Yes the rear has to go lower than the front to comprimise the rake. Remember your car should lean forward, you will retard handling by leveling the car out.,

Also, GC and Tein BCO have very high spring rates, so like Derek said, you'll keep ruining mounts if you go too low. It also will depend on the number of potholes and bumps where you live.

Have you considered something like AGX + Pro-Kit? Unless you really are set on adjustability...

I'm really set on adjustability... cuz i have to drive it in the winter too and i'll need to raise it when i get my urethane kit in the winter.. also i wont lower it to much.. around 2 finger of wheel gap maybe a tad lower so i might not go to 2" or over. i liked the stance the Sportlines have but i rather just have coilovers to raise em. What were u saying about leveling it out? Like explain what you mean if u could. Thanks

'04 Sunfire, 10k miles on my Basics, 1 rear strut mount - 6" deep pothole

I've also overloaded my car across country.

They still work great.

If you live somewhere where the roads are uneven, you'd probably be better off with Tokicos and a Pro Kit.

I dont plan on AutoX.. Can someone explain what CTS meant bout retarding my suspension by leveling it out? Also do i need to get the new Spring Seat and Top Mounts for front and rear or just front?

Also i was directed to a set on Ebay.. there a bit cheaper than Gravana by around 100 bucks i beleive. Tein Basic Coilovers on Ebay What do you think? they seem legit to me..

You don't need new mounts unless the ones you have are bad. Unless you're putting this on the 96. You will need 2000+ mounts then.

The car was designed to lean forward. If you level it out, it will handle worse, not much, but some people care, so I'm warning you up front.

The eBay auction looks good overall. Some weird terms for payment. But it's the real product. And that's probably dollars over cost.

^ O alright thanks man ill remember that.. ill level it out for looks.. raise the rear for performance and yeah i'm putting them on a 96 the 00 was totaled i just dont wanna delete it out of my registry lmao. Now do i need to get the front and rear top mount and spring seat? I was told that in the box they list the part numbers of what i need to get.. but i was just curious for ahead of time. And the ebay auction seemed alright.. now if they were like 500 or less id be suspucious but they seem to have a pretty big facility and looks good. next is the hard part.. waiting for my next check or two to get them

I personally, found a post that Cherub posted a while back about blowing out a rear upper mount and decided, after looking at the struts and what not. There is a washer that comes with the kit to put under the nut to keep it attached to the mount I used that one and also used the stock one, one on the bottom of the mount and one under the nut on top. I personally don't know if it will help any, but you can't be too caucious(sp).

Hopefully all that mess made sense

So your saying put one washer under the mount and one on top? like sandwiching the mount?

yeah, exactly, the washers are thick enough so it should help
