I was a car show yesterday and my air compressors were running g all day and all of a sudden they stopped working. When i opened the trunk the wires and everything were really hot so i let them cool down for a couple of hours. When i went back to it. I put new fuses in them and the compressors sound like the are trying to kick on but they don't. They make a really funny noise. I have checked all of the wiring to see if i melted anything but everything is fine. I though that they mite have went into thermal mode from being so hot and overworked. Any help is appreciated . Thanks in advance.

Im guessing it doesn't have enough power to run. Check your power source.
How do you have the compressors hooked up? Solenoid or Relays or Straight power through the fuse box? What guage wiring did you use for them?
Check your pressure switch as well... it may be that and not the compressors. They will only come on if you pressure switch is working properly. GIve them power from a 12v source and see if the come on. If not, then upgrade the wiring to atleast 10ga. Add a relay or a solenoid to help control the power and ofcourse swap out the pressure switch if it is not working.

I have then hooked up through relays 1 relay for each compressor and the relays are good and from the relays it goes to a fuse for each with is good. I have 10 Ga wiring as well. I am going to try to run them straight to the battery and see if that helps at all. Thanks and if you think of anything else just let me know.

well i had a problem like that with mine and i thought i needed a new compressor but turns out my battery was just almost dead. i had my car sit for several weeks and i would just run the compressor for a few mins a day. about a couple weeks later thats what it sounded like
Well i tried hooking it up to a another battery and it still does the same exact thing.

hate to say it but i bet your did some damage to the compressors, i would start checking internal peices at this point, my finger points at either the motors being bad or melted something or other inside, OR what it most likely is, most compressors use a piston system to compress air i'm assuming these are the same way, you could of created so much heat in the cylinders that something seized up, remember compressing air creates heat, if you ran them all day long and now they are turning over really slow, or they start to kick on but make a horrible racket you probably did some internal damage, i'm not super familiar with the compressors but if these use a changeable oil source check your oil if its got a metallic glint to it you toasted a cylinder.
