Hello
I'm planning on installing an RK Sport Coilover Sleeve kit on a set of KYB AGXs. Reading through the instructions on the RK Sport site is ways to cut off the spring perches and the stoppers, but I don't want to midify my new AGXs incase one is defective, I'd be SOL.
So are these steps absolutly necessary?
Thanks

On a second note is there a way to edit posts to correct typeos?

even if you could get coilovers onto the agx's without modification you'd be SOL
cause agx's are NOT MEANT FOR COILOVERS!
yes, modificiations are neccessary. if you haven't paid for the kyb's yet, save up a few more bucks and get koni yellows
No way to edit post.
And by putting coilovers on the AGX's, you're already voiding the warranty so it doesn't much matter if they end up blown later. You won't get anything for them anyway.
Now if you're trying to keep this a secret and hope they won't find out... well that's just wrong. If you were planning on using the coilovers and wanted a warranty, you should have bought Konis.
Now i"m not entirely sure whether they'll fit properly on the AGX housings so you might want to get in touch with RK Sport about that. GC made specific sleeves for the Konis, stock struts, and KYB GR2's. If the AGX's are the same dimensions as any of those, then you should be fine. Again... call RK Sport for the 411 on exactly how you should secure them.
Ok Kevin will do
But I don't intend to drop more then an inch and a half (not a fan of overly slammed cars) the issue is incase one is defective. Since all 4 are brand new I don't know.

Because of the spring rate on coil overs it does not matter if you drop it an inch or an inch and half the spring rate are too high for them. They will still blow. They specifically designed to go with Springs with no more that a 1.5" drop and those spring are progessive springs.
Should work. I have heard that some companies can tell if you have the abuse the shocks have gotten once they have taken them apart.

it's not the drop that kills struts it's the fact that the spring rates on coilovers are twice that of regular springs
basically meaning that the springs on coilovers have a lot more force and move much faster and the valves inside the struts can't and are not meant to move that fast, hence, they wear out much faster.
But that was the Point I got AGX's, to turn up the stiffining to keep up with thw spring rate...
So now it dosen't work like that?

not when kyb specifically states in their warranty that no coilovers are to be used on ANY of their products.
sell em and get what you need. save you money, headaches, and wrench time in the long run
Sell the whole setup on ebay for like 600-700 and then go to the Group Purchase forum and sign up for Gravana's new coilovers. Those are about the nicest coilovers I have seen for our cars and the price is right ($995).

The whole point of the AGX's is that you can turn up the spring rate to get the damping you want within the range they're designed for.
You're absolutely right in that you need much more damping power for the coilovers. You're going in the right direction. You just didn't quite get there.
So far as I know, Koni is the only ones making dampers for coilover sleeve kits on our cars. I'm not sure whether the new Tein's can handle it or not.
As for the ride height... check some of my recent pics showing my ride height. If you didn't know any better, you'd think it was stock or maybe a set of Prokit springs. Suspension travel is your friend.
tien is a full coilover set up.
