Can the twist beam rear suspension be boxed?

Curious if this can be done. Looking for alternatives to a rear sway bar. Seems these are becoming harder to find and more expensive.

This is for a track only car, so no concerns about NVH etc...

Thanks in advance.

Maybe box like a 1-2 foot section in the middle? I think boxing the entire thing would be too much.

In theory it would work, but the triangle shape it would form will end up ripping all the welds off the plate on the bottom. Triangles don't like twisting. If you used a round tube it would work fine.

for 95 and up (3rd gen) see if you can find a Z24 in the junkyard. the rear beam has a anti sway bar welded into it.

You could drill the hole in the middle of the axle and weld a long rod in on both sides like the factory sway bar. People have done this.

On the inside my car looks like a fighter jet.

OEM did this to the reaper, search for the rebuild on it and i think theres a couple of pics you can see of it. They don't show "how to" or any details, just says they did it.

I did box the rear beam axle on my sedan and I also have a rear sway bar. It helps with twisting of the rear beam. I believe I used 1/4" thick plate and drilled 3 decent size holes in the middle.

That's awesome, thanks for the pics! I was finally able to find a rear sway, but I am still interested in doing this at some point (probably this winter). I am curious to see how the sway bar by itself impacts the handling and go from there.

I plated mine side to side and added 1-1/4 tubing for more support, prob. overkill but i have air ride. stopped it from twisting so much, ill get a pic
