Ideas for rear brake setups
Monday, April 04, 2011 11:48 AM
I have been looking, browsing, investigating, whatever, into a full aftermarket rear disc/internal parking brake combination. Does anyone have/created this setup or have found one listed anywhere? And I'm not asking about a SRT4/Neon setup. Any help would be wonderful.

SSBC rears
clicky

or Baer rears
clicky2

or neon rears. there arent too many other options that keep the factory 5x100 lug pattern.

do you still have to machine the brackets to do this?

What has to be done to get the saturn s series to work? and do u use the rotors also?I have heard of using sti rotors , but nobody said what had to be done to make them work. I would asume the sti rotors would at least have to be drilled larger in the center to make it work.

You just need the caliper and caliper bracket from the s series and then you find a rotor with the same specs as the s series rotor but in 5x100 or you have a stock s series rotor redrilled.

* I forgot the bracket you need made to support the caliper.

That sounds awesome, i could get that setup on the cheap. Oh , what about the parking brake? Do you just hook your existing cable to the new setup?

Yup just connect and go.

So did u redrill the saturn rotors or use another rotor? Also, why are people messing with the neon rear disk setup when this saturn setup is so much easier? Unless your going for a big brake setup (wich neon is not) i dont see the point in all the fabrication.

I never got to the rotor point since I went with SSBC's in the rears.

But you can have them redrilled or simply look for rotors with the same dimensions as the s series but with a 5x100 bolt pattern.

Problem with the saturn brakes is that those calipers suck. You dont drive it within a couple days of a rain storm and pow the rear calipers are frozen because the sliders rusted. Oh and pad choice leaves something to be desired.

This is true but since it's under $100 to do the swap it's a viable alternative.

You'd have to find ones that work since there aren't any that are sold. And the issue is more of the caliper rusting around the slider. There was talk of making better slider boots at one point but it didnt go anywhere.

You need to fine rotors that are around 9.65 inch OD and 0.43 thick. in 5x100 bolt pattern.

So it would take minutes to machine some up....

How about drill larger openings in calipers, and install bushings, and then make stainless sliders.

What I'm saying is that stainless sliders wouldnt really help. Better boots/seals for the sliders would... Or maybe just packing them with that good brake lube.

I haven't seen any rust issues on mine crammed with grease.

Just keep up with them and no worries.

Leafy get on it. lol

we could machine down the thickness if we could find one close.

Get the right Thickness, and turn down the Outside Diameter.
