Finally finished installing the tein ss's today
Friday, February 18, 2011 5:02 PM
As the title posts I finished installing the tein ss's today. So far I love them, its like a new car compared to the AGX and prokit. I have them set with 4 threads left. My only issue is now something is rubbing on the front driver's side when I accelerate. It only happens when my foot is on the gas. Its weird and didnt do it earlier today before I but the teins on. I did also install a solid lower mount as well but dont think that would cause rubbing. Any Ideas on that would be great.

the rubbing could be the inside of ur tire on the spring perches....

If it takes forever.... I will die trying. Underdog Racing

Mine rubbed on my basics and was running a 225 tire. Probably your problem.

I do have a 225 tire. Its weird though, I drove it 5 miles to work this morning and it only does it when my foot is on the gas and above 2000rpm, but it gets louder with mph not rpm. Ill try the spacers later today when I get home and see if that's the problem. I'm wondering if the cv shaft doesn't like the extra drop. Years ago it was in an accident that screwed that side up and 6 months later the hub wore out from the accident. I'm wondering if this is related.

i doubt its your wheel tire combo. with that offset your wheels are closer to your fenders. . i bet your hub may going bad again

tein SS's dont have perches, they are coilovers iirc.

is it possible you're rubbing a wheel well or something?

I just went out and took the wheel off and the tein looked like it was damn close to the tire. I inspected every thing else and can't visually see anything rubbing. I installed the 3mm spacers put the car on its own weight, seems to have ample clearance in the wheel well. Went for a drive and its even worse. Could a quarter inch lower really piss the hub or axle off that badly? I know wheel spacers can add stress to the hub and it coincidentally got louder with them but not a sound when the prokit was on.

yet take some chalk and go around the whole inner tire with it and maybe even the outer tire and drive the car just enough to mark where it may be rubbing.

jack your car up and grab the wheel. grab top and bottom and try pushing with one hand, pulling with the other, then switch what each hand is doing. if there is play, find it(either ball joint or wheel bearing) . then try with your hand on the tire at 3 and 9. same thing. if this shows play, its either your iner or outter tie rod end.

just out of curiosity, how old and what type are your control arm bushings?

really? integrity of subframe?

i would replace your ca bushings whether or not anything else shows play. i'm sure with them being that old they are moving around a little on ya.

i was in an accident last march and the collision shop said they had to bend my subframe but thats it, and since it didn't have to be heated up it didn't have to be replaced. 5 months later my subframe broke right where they bent it, causing the driver wheel to lurch forward when under enough torque from the engine. very scary experiance. i found it the next day i went to work(i work as a gm technician) and was able to replace it myself, otherwise i would have been looking at a +$1000bill.

pics of subframe?
