So i ordered a complete kit from Dropzone that includes lowering shocks/struts and coilovers. Upon installation i notice that even all the way down that the car sits noticeably high ( higher than what I had in mind for coilovers). The shocks and struts have the factory style spring seats... And the shocks/struts are so compressed that it hits the top of themselves on even the smallest bumps. Am I doin something wrong or is the factory elongated style struts all around to blame? Granted they are lowering struts with bigger cylinders but still... It should be slammed all way around on coilovers, right?
post a pic of how you have them, and we'll go from there.
Well for the time being i switched back to factory cuts lol. but b4 that i had the coilovers sitting ontop of the huge spring seat plates that r just the same as my oem ones (so pretty much what it looked like was a factory strut with the coilover barrel and spring assembly sitting where the oem spring would go). Ill post pics when i dig my factory struts out from under all my christmas light junk i got strewn all over my garage, prob 2mrw.
cut springs = HUGE FAIL!!!
Dropzone = HUGE FAIL!!!

And now you have just confirmed it. You definitely are doing it wrong.
its an old concept. time for something new to take the reigns. - Z yaaaa
Well my biggest question is do i need to cut the spring seats off and weld my own stops back on or what? But if i do that it looks like my strut movement will be very f'n close to bottoming out when its all the way down And sorry for the Dropzone kit BnB its all i could afford at the moment. Economy sucks got cut 10 hrs/wk and im still tryin to build a car on a 30 hr/wk paycheck with a house payment. Geez...
Drop Zone + J-body = blown suspension.
The problem is the parts you are using. If you cannot afford to do it right then dont do it. I waited a year before i was financially comfortable enough to buy my Teins. I've been trying to build my spare eco for about 2 years and so far i have always had more important things to spend my money on. Saving is the name of the game. If you cannot afford to "build" a car then dont. It is that simple.

yup yup, or buy quality used parts. there are plenty of suspension "kits" for sale on this board, ranging from 200- 800 bucks...
i paid 700 for my coilovers. and they are prototypes.
Well then what would be the best kit to buy for goin low as possible with factory bumpers? My car is my dd and ride quality is an issue. More towards the stiffness to absorb bumps cuz i live in Tn and the roads here r horrible I had 20s and ended up warping them in 2 yrs. Im goin 18x8s with a 38mm offset n the spring and would like to be low as possible. I guess ill ride my Dropszones till they bust but as far as struts and shocks go what should i shoot for? I know the elongated issue makes it hard but is there a shorter version for a lower ride height to begin with?

Good idea. Explain that to the person you run off the road and injure/kill when those dropzone finally fail during a 60mph lane change.
That is the most irresponsible attitude to take, blowing out a suspension is one of the most dangerous events that can happen on the road, especially since chances are slim that you're going to know how to control your car and counter it safely when it happens.
Do yourself and those sharig the roads with you a favor...put your stockers back on, throw away/burn/bury those drop zones and save up money until you can afford a suspension that will work properly and safely.

gotta agree with ya on this 1, I wouldn't use them @!#$s man, my first set of springs were dropzone, I had them on for a month, hit a pothole and my spring on the front right snapped in half, the only good thing about the whole situation was it snapped on the inside of the wheelwell and gave me just enough support to get home and park it. Dropzone sounds nice but the spring snapping didn't, my opinion , their junk.
