(I know that the rear bearing is not serviceable.) Has anyone gotten one of these apart or know how to get one apart? We tried to use a 20 ton press, pullers, and clam shell separators and just ended up bending things? There must be a lock or something?
I used a torch to get one apart one time. Why do you want to pull it apart?
are you trying to remove the hub assembly from the torsion beam or just tear apart the hub?
I want to separate the hub from the bearing housing. So if i went to NAPA and bought a rear bearing I would get the whole hub, bearing housing, and studs. I Want separate that so I have a separate housing, separate bearing, and a separate hub w/ studs. I found a post that said something about a t50 torx bit but i didn't see that in there, and now I don't have it here to look at.
They are all one unit, i am not sure you can replace just the bearing, or just a certain part. you have to replace teh whole hub assembyly
I just replaced the rear hubs on my car when I did the Neon disk brake conversion. There is no getting them apart. You have to order the complete unit. It comes with everything. The torx is what holds the hub onto the axle. Hope this helps.
Do like Brandon (Fluffy) did and change lanes on the highway. Bearing should come apart easily!. (Not sure how he did that, but glad he was OK)
I realize that they are not meant to come apart to replace the bearing. I want to take it apart anyways. So there is a torx bolt that holds it together?

Why do you want it apart if you know you can't replace internal parts?
Throw the junk away and put on a new one. It will be fine.

It will be fine for about 2-3 weeks! I want to look at modifying this so it lasts longer. (circle track) I need to get it apart first!
Circle track explains alot haha.
You might be better off making your own piece. With the right tools/parts/knowledge it should be fairly simple.

You would think it would be fairly simple to get the old one apart!!!
In my thinking (which is usually a little off
) if they came apart easily at all they wouldnt force you to buy an entire hub assembly.
They make them impossible to take apart to make themselves more money.
Its a conspiracy man.
I personally would NOT want them to "easily" come apart, especially while driving.
ive messed around with taking one apart and there is no torx holding it together just the four that hold it to the rear axle. i would imagine a BIG press and or some heat.
Yea we were bending stuff on a 20 ton press! I want this apart!
If you're racing circle track, use a pre 91 hub assembly. They will bolt right in and lack the ABS junk, so they're cheaper.
if i remember correctly they are pressed together. you have to cut the ring that is pressed on the axel to get it apart. i have done this a couple times, then i had the axel machined and threaded and put a lock nut on it. has worked for over a year but you must have at least a grade 8 nut or it will pull the threads out. hope this helps
I went and got one for a 90' grand am for my sunfire and it fits perfect. When I pulled the dust cover off it already was made with tapered timken bearings in it. I was in the process of building a hub for timkens but don't need it now, all I have to do is repack and tighten up just like a trailer hub. Oh and jim p is right if you pull the abs sensor or dust cover off there is a ring crimped arount the spindle just cut that off and it should fall right apart.

where did you get the hub?? was it at a junk yard? i tried the parts store and a 90 grand am has the same part # as an 04 cavi whitch would be the pressed bearings..
