youd have to do what it takes to remove the shoes usually. Remove the springs.

no just pry the shoes apart and the star wheel should fall out you should not have to remove the springs

this. remove drum, spread shoes apart, replace star wheel. also, i would recommend replacing the shoes. if the star wheel broke, the shoes ate it. thus, needing replacement. if you replace the shoes, replace the hardware kit as well.

ok i ordered new hardware kit and shoes and the star wheel. i already had replaced the solenoid last week. hope these fixes the car was pulling to the right even after i had it aligned. i think the right wheel was braking and casuing it pull right. which is why i started to inspect the drum brake.
