Strut tower to Knuckle height difference? Pass. to Driver?

I'm in the process of upgrading from my GC coilovers to something with a better ride. But in my tinkering I've come to the conclusion that the height from the very top of my strut tower to the bolts on the knuckle is about 2" longer on the driver's side than the passenger's.

Is this normal?

if that was the case then you wouldn't be able to swap shocks from one side to the other. 2" is a lot to be different.

I can switch the struts from side to side without issue. But on the drivers side I have to pull the knuckle up, while on the pass. side I have to compress the spring a little bit to put it in.

Check your control arm bushings.

For what?

If they're worn will it allow one control arm to angle down further?

If it was 2 inches higher on one side you would see a notable camber problem. You can not measure from the lower control arm to the strut tower. It is not a fixed point. Measure from a fixed point to a strut bolt hole.
Could be worn out control arm bushings causing one side to drop.
This car ever been in an accident?

Before I owned it it was a total loss, I'm not sure the reason. In my ownership I've hit the direct front of the bumper and also the rear right quarter panel.

I'll take a look at the control arm bushings when I get home on tuesday. Are there any tests I can do? Searches for control arm issues never came up with much for me.
