Brake issues - '96 Olds Achieva

Hey everyone!

I'm new to the forum. Seems to be a great source for GM vehicle information... glad I found it

I'm searched high and low about my particular issue, but couldn't find an answer.

I have a 1996 Oldsmobile Achieva (Sedan, V4). I recently did a complete brake job on the rear axle. I replaced the shoes, hardware, wheel cylinder and drums. Obviously, the olds were shot and were in need of a replacement. My problem is that the brakes are worse now than they were before. I have to push the brake padel all the way to the floor in order for the brakes to start working. All of the new parts were put on perfectly. I thought at first it was the star wheel adjustor... so I went back in and adjusted those, still no solution. There are no leaks from the new wheel cylinders. I did however have to top off on brake fluid. The only thing I can think of is that air got in the brake lines and that I need to flush the system. I was just curious to know of any other problems that may come along after the installation of new brake components. Thanks in advance for the help!

you also need to bleed your brakes.
