I was thinking with all the hype about the progressive bar due to its solid bracket off the bar to the rear strut. With the Addco/eibach why not make an elongated L shaped bracket that goes from the rear strut bolt to the bar itself. Eliminating the long bolt and bushings. Obviously it'd need to be a sturdy bracket and brade 8 hardware. Id think it would be comparible to the progressive design, taking out the weak link. Plus the larger diameter of the bar compaired to the Progressive might out do the progressive. I think im going to try this.
let me know how this works out for you, I may end up doing the same with a triangle brace for added support.
sounds like a cool idea.
i gotta ask though... when is it 'too much' for the rear? dont we want this thing to move? or do we WANT it to be completely sold and have zero give? i thought the idea behind IRS was so BOTH sides were independant... doing more and more stiffening mods to our rears will make them less and less 'independent', no?

Correct.

Thank you Dave and JBO!
and by what i said i know it sounded like i think our suspensions are IRS, i know they are not.
i meant that IF irs's have completely moving sides, wouldnt we want to try and mimic that as much as possible?

You bring up a good point...I think once I get the engine straight Ill give it a shot and see how it feels.
Well it comes down to how stiff you want it.. You still want a little flex to control the contours and elevation changes in the road. Watch a mk3 or mk2 gti there notorious for picking up the inner rear wheel in a turn when set-up stiff.
A stock suspension will lift the inside wheel when pushed hard enough. Neons are the same way.
Remember the stiffer the rear, the more likely it is to over steer over any bump.

True but you also have some more flex in a stock suspension.

Interesting idea. I'd be interested in seeing more on this and results.
I would say tho...given the larger diameter of the addco/eibach to the progress it would seem to get better performance. However you have to remember the progress bar sits in front of the beam, giving it a slightly higher angle of articulation then that of the beam itself. Whereas the addco/eibach's center line of the bar is more in the direct center of the axle which looses the angle magnification possible by sitting on the front side of the beam. This is the first and primary reason I bought my progress bar way-back-when. This aids the ability to have the highest level of force rejection right at the resting position which aids in the crisp on target feel I got from the bar when I installed it. Well, that and the lack of prothane just about everywhere helped too. So while on paper the progress bar looks to have 3mm less but with a direct line of strength, it also has slight angle magnification which you will never have with the eibach/addco setup due to the longer arms of it...without pretty severe modification atleast. It is this that, I feel, makes up for alot more than the 3mm it may lack in diameter to it's competitors.
But for all the addco/eibach's floating around out there, I say go for it and get the most you can out of em.

I figure I'll make the best of what I have. I think I paid 130 for my front and rear addcos used or i might have shopped around more. I like the idea behind the progressive. Maybe the vert will see one of those eventually.
I have an eibach rear bar that I got from a buddy a while ago missing some of the hardware and was actualy thinking about something like this. I bought new endlinks for it and was gona make some L brackets for the endlinks to connect but make mock it up and take some measurements and see about something like this.
