Hey guys, I just replaced my tires because they were wearing really strange in the rear because of some bad struts. How hard would it be for me to change them out myself? I'm not looking to drop the car at all, just replace them with some OEM style struts.
Do I need any special tools? Does anyone know of a "how-to" online anywhere? Preferably with pics?
Thanks
please learn how to search. changing the strut is very simple. you just need basic tools. check out bradiscool.com for pics. yes i know the pics on there show how to install lower springs but its the same thing. it shows you how to remove the strut, take out the mounts and all.

I did search and mostly what I came up with was questions about aftermarket performance related stuff which I wasn't interested in. But thanks for the information.

Rear strut installation is the same for any stock or aftermarket part.
Shop Manuals, Brochures:
www.kenmcgeeautobooks.com
its very simple. look at the link i gave you.
1) jack car up and remove rear wheels
2) open trunk and pull back liner
3) remove bolt in each strut tower (13mm)
4) each up in wheel well and remove both bolts (2 10mm)
5) reach behind drum and remove bolt (18mm)
6) pull out strut assembly
7) remove dust cover to get to nut at top of strut mount
8) remove top nut (note compress spring with a spring compressor before removing mounts)
remove strut mount and then replace the strut. reverse order to install everything
if you need farther information, like said go to bradiscool.com, click on garage then click on spring install. yes i know you arent installing lowering springs but it give you pics on how to remove the struts.
note all the pics are from that site.

Rubber mallet, hit it, it will fall off.
Done... man it was rusty! I bought the car at 56K and had it for 31K... I'm guessing that this is all stock

Is the strut replacement the same for the LS convertible? I have to pull the strut in my 95 out to inspect it. I'm getting a rattling and clunking sound from the right rear strut depending on the severity of the bumps I go over. Is this a common problem with Cavaliers? Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
Vic
Thanks. Do they all clunk and rattle as well?
