Lowering Springs Discussion

Ok i hear the question all the time... and ive even asked it: Can you put coil overs on stock struts?

I was told no. But i looked in this thread and it said (kinda) otherwise.

http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=3&i=50260&t=50260

It sais "Lowering springs" is a cheap way to lower your car, and is possible, but not highly recomended.

So let me get this straight. You have asked about lowering on stock struts, and you have read plenty of threads about lowering on stock struts, but you still keep looking for the answer that it's OK to do?

Sorry, but this kind of sh!t is too typical, and it's ridiculous. When you have heard mulitple times from knowlegable people not to do something, you can chose to listen, or choose to do it anyway. However, stop looking for the answer that it's OK to do. You're obviously dead set on doing it, so looking for that answer is only to make yourself feel better.

No.... the topic was misunderstood, im not doing this. If i am going to lower my car, it is going to be done right. I am going to lower it to improve handling.

I just read that topic and was like what the heck?

The only way stock struts would be ok is if you cut an inch or two off the top and had them re threaded. Thats what i had to do to the race car cause we arent allowed aftermarket struts.

Save up and do it the right the first time. Really think about what you want from the start. I wish I would have just waited to get what I really wanted (tein ss's) instead of getting road magnets/d-specs. Not that I'm not happy with what I have, but I just wish I would have saved up and got them from the get go.

If I would have waited for that, I would never get this damn thing lowered lol. Also, your new sig threw me off

I do agree though.

While that may keep them from bottoming out and blowing, it still doesn't address the fact that they aren't valved for the increased spring rate, which is half of the problem.
