I have a 2000 Z24 convertible....... with a noise in the front.... it sounds like is humming.... the faster i go.... the sound becomes louder and like if it was spinning....the noise depends on the MPH.... it spins faster as i go.....what is it????
Well... without actually hearing it it is hard to say.... Could be uneven tire wear, meaning you need a front end alignment. If it is pulling a little(doesnt have to be though), or gets louder when you turn your wheel a certain way, could be a wheel bearing. Could be a belt? Like i said, dunno for sure without actually hearing it.
well... actually the car has a lot of tire wear....the noise is just when i accelerate.....the faster i go i starting to hear the sound... so no belts here.... tire wear i dont think so.. becuase the tires are being like that and i couldnt hear anything before..... also it doesnt pull to aside or when I turn or anything... i hear it on going straight.... but when i turn to the RIGHT this sounds stops... this humming/rumming ..... i think somebody told is a wheel bearing,.... but im not so surel..... and it is easy to fix??? and if so.... is there any HOW TO????
If it stops when you go right, it is prbly a left wheel bearing. I just Changed my left too... it took me about 5-10 minutes after i got the one tool i need. It isnt bad at all... i used my hanes manual... if you don't have one, i could prbly take a picture of the process and send it to you via pm? It is haggard, but it would work. lawl
yeah of course! sent it via pm! becuase is really annoying this noise........ or send me like a step by step... or something... like what tools you need and that.. what part also... they want to charge like 35 bux just to fix it.... lolz
You will need a wheel bearing and hub assembly(it comes in one box, one part). Look into that... we can discuss how to do the surgery when you look into getting that.
And it may not just be an annoying sound.... if your wheel bearing is bad that means the grease in the bearing is dried out/gone. If your wheel bearing would happen to lock up, your whole TIRE locks up. You will be squelling down the road with your tire not moving. That's no good and you can't get too far with that. =P
^^ If it stays on the car

it defiantly sounds like a wheel bearing, but you'd be surprised how much noise worn out tires can make...
Make sure you have a deep enough socket for the hub bolt.
oh and it takes more then 5-10 mins, especially if its your first time id set at least 2 hours a side to do it. i have done it 3 times on my green cav and the fastest i ever did it was an hour (but i do take lots of beer breaks
)
also some of the haynes manuals i believe have a misprint for the torgue specs for the hub bolt, i believe it is actually supposed to be bolted down to 144 ft/lbs not 185 ft/lbs
I would ask the auto parts store you buy the hub assembly from cause they have a book with all the torque specs but i tightened one down to 185 and it went in about 8k miles and at 144 i have already got more then that so idk...
