What is the metal sleeve type seal for? when i took the old bearing off there wasn't one on there. Where does it go? What issues can be caused by not having that on?
are you talking about the seal that cam with the new wheal bearing assembly?
if so it cam with my new one too and i cant see what it is for either so i just kept it it works fine with out it!
One of the auto-x guys gets more bearing life without the seal, so I'd suggest leaving it out.

As far as I could tell it is just a dust shield which goes on the inner side of the bearing.
