ok this is kind of a newb question but i bought some rotors off a friend of mine for the neon rear disc swap that were gonna go on a neon, but i dont know which way they go. I have seen the wilwood and brembo kits go with the veins pointing towards the front, but i have also seen other cars with the veins pointing in the opposite direction. My question is, whats the correct way?
here are some pics to help you see what im talking about. The front of the car being at the right side of this post, which direction do they go?
option 1
option 2
sweet, thats all i needed to know. Basically the veins pointing towards the front of the car.
I forgot to say thanks, so... thanks!
really doesnt matter. if big brake companies have it both ways... how can it hurt for the smaller brake companies?
i have had both. my hawks go like said, but my dads ssbc's go the other way...
My Wilwoods have an arrow with with the slots pointed fowards (but are installed facing the rear for aesthetics... really doesn't make a difference), but my rears have an arrow pointed towards the back (EBC)... go figure
On some rotors it does matter. On vented rotors some of the time the vents are straight, sometimes they are curved inside, if they are curved they need to be mounted the way they are labeled to avoid over heating the rotors.
Interesting. Learn something every day. I thought for sure the vanes would be meant to discharge outward, rather than pull in toward the hub. Hadn't that ought to be the best way to get rid of gases and heat? Seems from what you guys are saying that the opposite is true.

I read once that Brembo specifies the rotors to point towards the rear of the car, at the top. The slots and drills on the surface are irrelevant, its all about the vanes.

I just realized I was confusing ventilation vanes and slot/drill direction. Makes sense now.

in this case, it would not matter, iirc the neon rears are solid rotors, and have no veins. So you can mount them either way.....to match the fronts.

yay ! back from the dead.
and i still say the veins point toward the rear, providing a fast exit for debri and gas...thats also how mine were labled.
This is how Baer told me to install my rotors. There were stickers on each rotor and a sheet of paper in the box with written instructions and pictures to make sure i didnt @!#$ it up.

the direction of the slots on the face of the the rotor is not what determines the direction, the pattern/direction of the slots is strictly decorative. The
internal vanes are what determine the direction!
heres a pic, a cut away of a vented rotors
the straight vents don't matter which way they go, the curved vains you want mounted so looking at the topof the rotor they edges of the vanes point towards the back of the car. Picture in your head the rotor spinning, you don't want it scooping in air and sucking the hot air back to the hub area, you want it to spin and pull the hot air outwards and away from the brakes. The example on the right would go on the drivers side so it spins counter clockwise.
