Koni sport front inserts

Has anyone put these on?
What is result in fit?

Here is my problem.
I want koni sports all around on my 98 z. Damn fronts do not come with housing(that i can find so far after a week of searching).
So i figure worse case scenario i put yellows on back and what on front? (any wise cav. experienced peeps please chime in.)
I do not do this as a hobby but rather cuz i gotta replace my stock set up as it is beyond shot, it slid me out on a bend and into a fence, no one was hurt but my car.
I dont care bout dings n scratches so it pissed me off a bit but more so cuz i lost control.
I drive as fast as i can always and it costs me but i cant help it, its the way i am.(workin on $1000 ticket from highway)
I need the best handling without getting too mody or part specific for this car as it is all i can afford for the next while.

Gonna go with h&r springs n 225/55/16 potenzas n was hoping KONI yellows but those lame f-ers f-ed up my front plans!
Any suggestions for alternatives or combos?
like h&r with sensatrac on front n koni on back? or whole other struts?

please help. this is driving me nuts with all the info i've had to absorb n i dont have the time to get all up to speed on all the tech! I just want the best combo and be done with it.

Oh, btw how do i get my car to go past 172(i think thats where it stops accelerating)kmh?(forgot name for devce, is it 'governor' that stops acceleration?)

Thanks in advance.
Guy that drives but does not tinker

you have 2 choices for the H&R springs, Koni Yellows which are inserts for the front, or Tokico D-Spec (D-SPEC's not the the HP's or anything else they make, D-specs)

Re: Koni sport front inserts

it doesnt have to be H&r springs...simply what is best strut/spring combo for MOST improved handling...I just want to buy it and bring it over to my guy n have it all thrown on and then start ripping around

Even if you use your stock springs, koni yellows will offer a vast improvement in ride quality and handling over stock struts. They are adjustable externally, so you can test drive a couple miles, and if you want it tighter/firmer, get out and give all four corners a twist and your good to go.

I currently have koni yellows and B&G springs, w/ the koni's set to full soft all around, and the ride quality is not jarring or bouncy; the cornering is improved greatly from stock.

If you want maximum cornering ability and don't care about ride, consider Tein SS or the newly released STD coilovers

I've done konis (I did Koni Sport Kit -- springs and struts in one box). You have to take your old front struts apart and drill out your rear strut mounts to deal with the bigger strut piston.

It's honestly not as scary as it sounds.

I used this how-to

just by smacking on some struts and 225 tires does NOT make your car safe at high speeds.

The J-body has a speed limiter for a reason, and IMO it should not be as high as it is. So I dont think you need to even consider removing it.

But, the Koni's are a fine choice, as are D-specs. But sounds to me like a waste, cause you are just going to wreck it anyways. I have never even heard of a $1000 ticket on the highway, and I dont even want to know how you got it.
Do me a favor, and just park your car and take the bus.

did u have to chop your front housing?
Cuz thats my problem, my mechanic is not willing to chop and pop the inserts in but i do want konis in the back...so what would be a good option in the front to match the koni yellow in the back with h&r springs?
my goal is to get the best handling possible for the simplest installation possible.
thanx

Im not gonna wreck...u do realize its 'kph'...and the reason for the speed was very special and as murphy would have it there was a cop coasting between 2 rigs otherwise never would have got tik for going 50 over limit...in process of appealing it as it was 'under special circumstances'...do not underestimate my driving skills or any skills as you do not know who you are talking/typing too!

As for those who are not quick to judge, i would really like your input as it seems u guyz know your car and its best combos...i need to be kept glued to the road.

Just go with tokico D-specs if you cannot find someone to cut up the stockers

BTW don't post up here with your intentions to make the car "speed worthy" for the highway and expect not to get your ass busted for it at least a little. If you're truely interested in speeding, don't forget to upgrade the brakes, aside from the stock struts, they are truely one of the most sucky OEM performing parts on our cars IMO

My suspension/braking set up for "high speed stability":
- koni yellows on stock springs adjusted for your tolerance on ride comfort
- addco front and rear sway bars
- overkill strut mounts (front and rear when they're available - good for ~1" lowering )
- TTR k-brace
- front and rear strut tower braces of your choice
- SS braided brake lines
- hawk HPS pads on nicely resurfaced rotors or new aftermarket rotors of your choice
- BFG KDW-2 on stock 16's inflated to 32psi front 30 psi rear

This isn't going to make for the most effective cornering possible (for auto-x for example), but it will feel/be stable at highway speeds and maintain a reasonable comfort.

Unless your reason for that speed was taking a dying relative to the hospital, there is no exuse for going 50 KMH over the speed limit. and even then, they should be in an ambulance, not your cavalier.

You come to the site, and in your first post ask how to over-ride the speed limiter. Granted you did have a valid suspension question in there, which I DID anwser in my post, but I also wanted to express my dislike for people that think there car is some type of supercar, and they are indestructable.

If you want to sit here and E-thug me, whatever. I am just saying people on this site dont look kindly onto those who want to modify thier car to drive unsafe on the streets.
Like this neon, at 100 MPH (about the speed you are asking to go over)

driving skillz or no, a car that is not designed for the speed you are going, is an unsafe situation you put yourself, your passengers, and everyone else on the road in danger. If you want to drive fast, go to a track.

Did you do your back brakes?
And the '- overkill strut mounts (front and rear when they're available - good for ~1" lowering )' is new to me going to research right now, but did this allow for easier install of konis?

From what i can sum up so far its koni and d-specs.
Are the differences not to noticable or any? Or is it totally subjective?
d-specs come only in sets of 4 that i can find so far...had mind set on koni in back so i was hoping for a suitable slap on strut (that can handle h&rs) in front...I wish my mechanic would just do it or that i had tools cuz cinny's step by step was really good and I want to do it but money and location r a big factor right now.

Thank you though oldscool for your input! It means much.

To do koni yellows up front you do have to "chop" the front struts open. Did you even read the how-to I posted?

Plus, if your mechanic isn't willing to do a proper koni install...it's time to find a new mechanic. I did it myself with a hacksaw and power drill for the fronts. Needed a drill press for the rear strut mounts though. Any mechanics shop ought to have one available however.

Plus, I'm going to echo everybody else here on the forum. The cavalier is an econobox primarily. SLOW THE F DOWN BEFORE YOU KILL SOMEBODY ELSE DUMBASS!

E-thuggin' at is best (worst?)

Speeding is one thing (+5-10=whatever) -- driving like an idiot is something else entirely (+10 or more).
If you want to be taken even remotely seriously, learn how to spell and utilize a bit more structure.

Wish I were you? Come on. You think you can drive? Come play at the track. Hell, to make it fair you can use my car (AutoX is the drug of choice), that way there's a good apples to apples comparison. We'll see just how good you can drive. Just remember -- you break it, you bought it.

And once you get your feet wet with some real competition, get your head out of your ass and slow the hell down. And yes, speeding does increase the chances you will be involved in an accident. Period. By driving at excessive speeds you decrease the amount of time you have to react to things on the road, increase the amount of time and distance your car takes to stop, and when (not if) you hit something, you will hit it just that much harder. Use the head on top of your shoulders, not the one hanging from your pelvis.

Read up on physics? Physics says that speed is more dangerous. Mass * velocity = energy, energy=pain in a crash. Hmmm....

Speed=paying better attention? If you can't pay attention driving at a reasonable speed, you don't have any business being behind the wheel. Seriously.

From your attitude and communication skills, I'd say you've been driving for about a year? Maybe 2? Any more than that and I want you to pick my lottery numbers, because if you drive the way I think you drive (and describe yourself for that matter), you're the luckiest SOB I've ever heard about.

Ugh. My city and state are in my profile. If you care to take me up on my driving challenge offer, this is my region: http://www.cscc-scca.org/
Pick an event and give me some notice. If you can be civil about it, I'll see you on the track. On the way to the track, I recommend you shove a 2x4 under your skinny pedal.

You can PM if you need better directions than what's on the CSCC website.
