D-Specs/Sportlines vs. The World
Thursday, October 09, 2008 11:11 PM
as you can guess, I'm runnin Tokico D-Specs with the Eibach Sportlines.. I love the set-up, the way it rides and all.. but I wanna get lower, in 2 aspects: for one, I wanna fill the wheel-well gap. I know this can be accomplished with runnin bigger wheels and tires (I'm already on 18" Rotas, and new wheels are NOT in the budget), but that would add strain to the other field of lowering: ground clearance. my dilemma is that I just put a Type J kit on my car, and well, I was expecting to be a lil closer to Earth than it is.. so my first thought was to replace the springs with a set that has a greater drop, but still be able to keep the D-Specs.. any suggestions?

yes you are going to want coilovers. sportlines are one of the lowest springs so you wont find anything lower. if you need to go lower then you need coilovers. dspecs will work fine with ground controls

I knew coilovers were an option, but I wasnt sure if there were any other springs on the market that offer a lower drop before resorting to coilovers... we're talking about the threaded sleeve-overs, correct?

all coilovers have a threaded sleeve. you have a coil spring and a thread sleeve with an adjustable spring perch so to say.

right, the threaded sleeve with the 2 adjustable nuts that spin around the tower.... usually when I think of coilovers, I'm thinkin the pre-assembled kits like the TEIN SS's or the Basic Damper kit. I'm not familiar with the kits you put together, where you're buying your own shocks/struts, then the sleeves and springs separately and put it all together... I've read about them on these forums, but havent actually dealt with them in person

would you need to cut off the d-spec spring perches to get the CG's to work?

^^^ you sure? IIRC the RM's are less of a drop in the rear and equal to sportlines in the front. could be wrong though.

its going to be about the same. its not that much different. why waste money on springs when your not going to be happy with the drop? use that money and just buy ground control coilovers

I think the result the op is going for, he needs to get the coil overs.

or air.

do the perches or anything have to be modded to accept the GCs?
