DO NOT torch your balljoint rivets on 3rd gens

Maybe this is because I'm still n00b at torch work, but last night I tried to heat up the rivets on my lower ball joints to remove them, and I ended up tearing a hole in my control arm. I've done this before on Buick Century's and Grand AM's with no problems, but for some reason my 2005 Sunfire came with control arms made of foil

This is just a warning for anyone thinking about tackling this job yourself.

In retrospect it's worth it to buy the proper drill bit, and / or drill, take your time and drill the rivets out. hope this helps someone .

I ground down the rivets with a grinder, and used the nut/bolt combo that came with the replacement ball joints....

I have torched them no prob, I still prefer the air hammer approach.

Im guna say you are indeed a newbie behind the torch.

Yeah I just drilled mine out. Granted they were a huge PITA, but the CA was fine.
