Replacing Struts/Springs Are Rusting Q's
Thursday, August 28, 2008 3:10 PM
Well I just bought some aftermarket Monroe struts to put on. My Eibach springs are starting to rust. Is there something I can coat it with to stop it? I was thinking of the spray on beadliner @!#$ to put a rubber coating on it so It will stop in the area that the Eibach coating has rubbed off. Also Should I replace the shock mounts with it and be done or not? I have heard Monroe makes good mounts that are stiffer than stock. I am looking for a little better handling with the car.

monroes mounts arent any stiffer than stock.

As far as the rust either leave it alone or strip the springs and re-coat them with either powder coating or something similar.

I would just leave the springs alone. If you're at the point where you need to be replacing struts, I would do the mounts as well. Or at least the front ones. Some people say KYB mounts are the best. I've always just used whatever was cheapest at the parts store, though.
