I made a post last week regarding my newly replaced brakes that had started to oddly squeal very loudly. Well I had decided to take the car back to the dealership since they were the people who installed my brakes. I explained to them the situation with the noise and they told me they would look at it. So I went to pick the car up today and they informed me that the reason my brakes squeal is due to my brake pads being a "metallic finish" and that is how all new brakes are made. They ended up charging me $31.75 to clean my brakes, and soon to find out that they still squeal does this sound right about the metallic finish that is causing this?
It sounds like they didn't use any disc brake quiet. If all new brakes were made that way, everyones car would be squealing. I hope you didn't fork out $32 just to have them laugh at you as you walked away.
there are MANY things that cause a brake squeek, no disc brake quiet is one of them.
Did they tell you they put a semi-metalic pad on?? That would really suprise me since they came with ceramics from the factory.....and you got the service done at the dealer.
And they DO make LOTS of different pad compositions other than semi-metalic.
I would take it back, get your $31.75 back, and make them fix the problem, which is most likely lack of lubrication on the rear of the pads (disc brake quiet), cracked/defective pad, or glazed rotor surface.
I dont know about your sqealing but the shop that charged you to clean your brakes by law has to inform you that you will be charged before performing the service. so if they did not tell you that you were going to be charged they were in the wrong.
