Clunking noise from back

Well I was finally able to change my rear strut mounts. They really didn't look like they needed to be changed but since I bought the new ones I decided to go ahead and do it to try to get rid of the clunking sound I had in the back. Problem is that it didn't get rid of it. It did help. Sometimes I don't hear ir and sometimes it's just as bad. I am completely out of ideas. I don't want to take it to a shop and get screwed again. I checked and the springs look like they are seated correctly. The only thing I'm not certain with is if I put the mount in correctly. I have both spring bottoms pointing to the left of the car. I know the left side should be like that since I made sure but I'm a little iffty on the right side. Any suggestions?

Bump...

Anyone know? Replaced strut mounts but still have clunking noises when I put on brakes only.

If you have a noise with the brakes on, why not check the brakes? They might need new shoes..

Yes, check out the brakes. That should tell you something...

I had the brakes replaced about 3 weeks ago back there. I guess I'll take a look to make sure they actually did something...

Odd thing is that I took off the strut twice and both times after I installed it, it was competely fine for my test drive. Took the car out later that night and slowly went back to what it is now: clunking when using brakes. It feels like the brake is catching but I didn't think that would be it since they were replaced and it went away twice each time time I put on the strut mount. I torqued everything to spec so I lost now.
