Hey guys
On my Cav the rear strut on the passengers side is making a loud clunk after every pot hole. I asked the mechanic about it he said it needs to be replaced. I bounce the car and its firm and only bounces once. I don't know if its just time to replace them the car has 83k miles on it.
From having this problem myself i would personally say strut mounts are shot.
But it's worth taking a look at the strut it's self as well, look for leaking oil or damage.

sounds like the mount is shot to me. bout $35-$50 each depending on the place you get them.
its a very common problem with our cars and you dont have to be on lowering springs on anything to have them go on ya. stock does it to.
yeah, when i wanted to find my rear clunk, i looked in the back, and my strut shaft had pounded through the mount and was hitting the metal plate of the rear dash.....
it would probably have passed a bounce test as well....
I have a similar problem. I bought the struct mounts and went ahead and bought a spring compressor as well. I know I could rent it from a shop but I think any struct work I'll just do myself. I'm hoping it's just mounts...I don't see anything wrong with the struts eye balling it with the wheels on. It will be my first doing doing something like this but I plan to take plenty of pics and posting a how-to...or a "things not to do because I @!#$ my car up" guide....whichever comes first.

I know I know...strut is spell wrong. Keep typing it like that.
