i got a set of astro air shocks and some mounting brackets for the shocks off an s10.(they are the same) im going to be putting the shock mounts about 4 inches lower than the factory mounts since the shocks compressed are 13 inches and extended are 24 inches. so give or take 10 inches of travel. ill have to tub the back a little. anyone done this? im thinking cadilac like ride quality. but ill get some picks later on it have to pick up some fittings first. trying to think of a way to way to di something on the front. if anyone has and pics of something other than strutbags on the front please post them.
At one time, I did a little bit of testing with air shocks in the rear of my cavalier. I just bolted them up to the stock mounts. It is definately possible to run them in the rear. They do ride fairly well to. I just didnt feel like making an upper mount to get the proper lift--and to keep it from rubbing tire all when all the way down.
My advice if your going this route is to use larger airline, which will probably be hard to find for the fitting that is usually on airshocks and at least 150psi to lift it. I have a suspension build thread for hydraulics, if you go back a couple pages in this forum. I think the rear setup is about 18"inches tall when all the way down, and 28" when extended so keep that in mind when you make the mounts. For the front, airshocks are not really a good idea. They just cant handle the side to side forces put on them. Been there done that in another car, the airshock tube folded in half under the stress. Not to mentian the pressure that you would need to lift the front with airshocks.
Good luck.
thanks for the input. was very helpfull. i was acutally thinking about running them in the front as well. i have the mount made. just need to get to a mig welder so i can weld it up. ill get pictures soon if it looks good enough lol
