ok so my car is a 2003 sunfire 2.2 eco. body kit and 18's. anyway when i turn really sharp when going slow my front shifts a little and makes a popping sound and when i back up and turn my wheels i can feel it pop in the steering wheel and it feels like i am on ice or gravel and i have no idea what it is and i dont want to just go buy a bunch of crap to see if it will fix it i want to just go but what it needs to fix it. someone said it was the rack others have said other things but those are people from auto part stores and most of them are morons so can anyone help?
Looked at your profile but didn't see if you were lowered too...sounds like a spring may be unseated to me if you are lowered. Didn't get them set when installing them.
If not lowered then I'd have to guess steering rack or strut mounts.
Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?
Sounds like a strut mount.
no my car is not lowered so i guess i will change the strut mounts and rack just to be sure i dont want it to be apart and not fix the problem so might as well do it all at once. thanks guys
Change the strut mounts first. You should be able to tell what side its coming from. Changing out the rack is a PITA, and its probably not even that. I've never heard a steering rack pop like that. Grind, whirrrr, clank, but not pop.
