wheels then lowered...

I need to replace my tires. when modifing my car i tend to fix a problem or issue that bothers me, not just replace something because. since the tires need replaced i thought it a good time to go ahead and fork out for some wheels and tires. It has come to my attention that most people rather a lowered suspension along with wheels. i am sort of torn at this point. I want and can afford the wheels at this point, but not the suspension, so does anyone have any good reason to not get the wheels first, then lower the car if and when the oppertunity arives. also does anyone have any input on putting 18's on a non-lowered car and it not looking like a 4x4. if it is most advisable to lower the car with 18's i'll probably end up just replacing the tires and saving the pennies and either buying all at once, or most probably sell the car as that is my plan for 08 anyway. it is an 04 LS Sport coupe.

also; as i've never lowered a car before, i would like a round about. i can assume about 800 plus or minus on the springs and struts, as a coilover is just not what i'm after. does anyone have a suggestion on combinations of spring vs. struts that would keep price low to allow for the purchase of wheels at the same time to get no more then 1.4-1.8" of drop. i'm not asking what is best or better or good for this application. just what to expect to spend with different setups if that makes any sense. I'd much rather just be able to take off the entire assembly from upper mount down, replace it and be done with it.

to clarify:
My plan is to sell the car come summer anyway, so time is short. I need to replace the tires so i can drive to work. if lowering is recomended before putting 18's on what spring/strut combo would you recomend to get the 1.5" or so drop needed to keep things looking sharp. suspension is definately my secondary on this. I'd rather not touch it if it won't look gay.

If you plan on selling the car then why bother spending on things like wheels/suspension?

X2

and to your original question.... you don't NEED to lower your car because you got wheels, people just prefer the look of lowered on stock wheels over the look of rims with stock suspension. Who cars what anyone else thinks, your car, do what you want.

Im running 16" rims and 205/55R16 tires on my car w/o it lowered. Doesnt look that bad, but would def look better with a drop and some 17s. I tossed the rims on for get rid of the stock 14s my car came with. Campaired to stock, it looks good. But compaired to the guys on the .org, eh its not the best looking cavy.
