I got a few ?'s ... I took the struts off a vert z-24 that i have for a 2.4 swap and they were monroe sensatrac's with eibach lower springs and they lower the back of my sunfire 1.5 inches and about the same thing for the front... The struts are brand new with maybe 5,000 miles on them if that. Well it tends to bottom out alot. And since the struts aren't to old i was going to try and use them with the springs. but the ? is i know when you lower a car on stock style struts you lessin the travel of the strut. Is there anyway possible to raise the strut rod trough the mount without affecting the spring height like spacers or sectioning them? Or what about taking the strut apart and cut the rod right below the threads and cut 1.5 inch's maybe 2 of the rod and make a jig to get the rods straight a bevel the threads and rod and tig it back together and grind smooth.. That would put you back to stock travel wouldn't it? I don't like the cutting and welding part since the strut has all the wait on it. I see the 240z guys have been doing something similar as to sectioning..
It's seems legitimate, try it and let me know what happens.
dont be cheap and just do it the right way. someone already had this idea.
McMoney did this with his IRS swap.
Stock-valved struts won't last long with stiffer springs.
fortune cookie say: better a delay than a disaster
Shortening the rod would do nothing to change the travel. It would only move the travel to a different spot on the rod. If you were having serious bottoming issues, then yes, that might solve the problem, but I wouldn't do it like you're saying. I would totally dissasemble the strut, and chop whatever off the bottom of the rod where the discs attach. No messing with welding and grinding. Why you would go through all that time and work for such a little payoff though, is kind of strange. Its much easier and reliable to use an aftermarket strut. You could get real fancy and use a "build a strut" in whatever length you want, but unless you plan on actually adjusting the suspension height for tuning, its overkill.
These posts are hilarious.
The effort & time you spent being cheap could earn you the money needed to buy the appropriate struts.
I've gathered that you have the Eibach Pro-Kit, so the good news is you can get way with AGX's. Quick search on eBay,
$373 shipped, could possibly find them cheaper looking elsewhere.
