My dad said he'd spot me the $375 that the mechanic is charging to put my car back to stock suspension. I've got cut springs on stock blown struts (in case you weren't already aware) due to the previous owner, and I'm currently broke, so going to stock instead of lowering it right. I'll go back to lowering it once I get another job.
Does $375 seem like a good deal to you guys? This is with junkyard springs/struts and labor included. Even though my dads paying for it, he's going to want the money back, and the less ripped off we get the better.
Also for a future reference, what do you guys use to get underneath your cars? Just a jack, or do you have a ramp of some sort? Thanks.
i would take the money your gettin from pops.. and add to it later .. im sure you can get a pretty good set on ebay for under 4-500 soon. just keep a look out. oh and install them yourself. installing struts and springs on our cars are crazy easy. look in your local craigslist. or jbody region for someone selling some
Yeah do it yourself,rent a spring compressor and don't forget to get the front re-aligned after you get everything in.Take that $375,get some KYB AGX's and add a little more cash and get some Eibach Sportlines.

Even if you still go with junkyard springs, you're still better off getting new struts. At least if you do that, then when you want to lower it, you're already half way there. Keep in mind, though, that these won't take a big drop. If you plan on going lower than about 1.5", you'll need D-specs or Konis.

i have a set of stock springs you pay shipping there yours buy a set of gr2's or stock struts new and you will be set

Yeah dont get GR-2's for a drop. They are good as a OEM replacement...

considering 80% of all struts are weak at best , its best to just go new and better
buy good adjustable struts and just use a set of stock springs from someone
Thanks guys, and I would do it myself but I have no tools, no way to get under my car, and no spare ride in case it takes me longer than expected or something stupid happens. I understand what you mean about the struts, but my father is nuts about this stuff, and seeing as how he's paying, I'd rather not argue with him. If the struts end up blowing, I'll just throw a "I told ya so" at him and he'll probably end up paying for new ones in that situation. Thanks.
I installed mine in about 8 hours, but that was putting a front and rear together twice because I did it wrong the first time, taking breaks, trying to align it as best as I could until I got a wheel alignment, long breaks, a trip to the store for some food,
I know this is a long time, but for doing it the first time all by myself it went really well, and I love the look.
don't know what I paid for it anymore(done in the summer), but it was well worth it, It turned out that I had a bad rear strut anyway. I think I paid about 700-800 for shocks, springs, strut mounts, and the wheel alignment(and all the parts were new.
I should have done the other suspension components and steering parts then too, would have been easier, but would have taken forever.
Junk yard struts will be exactly that.... junk, they may hold up for a while, but you don't know what they are like, I had just less than 100 000 km on my car with a bad strut.
I would suggest just lowering it correctly now, you will save alot of time andd money in the long run, and it does not take alot of tools, a jack and jack stand, some wrenches and sockets and a spring compressor, and maybe a breaker bar and torque wrench too. ( an inpact gun to put the nuts on the top of the springs is a really good idea too)
I am sure you will know someone with tools to lend out, and you could invest in a pair of jack stands that are not really expensive but if you do alot of work on your car could really pay off, I do the bulk of the work on my car now(so I save more later), and I just take my time and ask the people on the org for help if I don't know something.
