Help with Air Ride Install
Sunday, July 22, 2007 3:32 PM
Hi, just bought a air ride kit and it was used so instructions were not included(of course). Ny way I have a few questions before I go a head and install it. It will be going on my friend's 01 cavy vert. the kit is just really to keep the kit off the ground on the way to work. The kit itself is a what looks like cyilnders in the rear and bags in the front. They are from Air Ride Technologys. Has a 10 pin switch box, a 8 gallon tank, n compressor.

My questions are the following any insight to install will be greatly appresiated.
#1- best way to run front lines and best to run rear lines.
#2- does the compessor need any relays, circuit breakers, inline fuses or what not.? ive seen a pt cruiser around that has a circuit breaker in it.
#3-Run lines inside or outside the car?
#4- how does the switch box need to be wired up to the accuators/valves?
#5- can a cav on bags front cylinders in the rear do a descint three wheel in the front and a nice dog leg in the rear?
#6- setups for the tank compressor in the trunk to have max space for items that my have to ride back there?

Any one who could provide pics that would be awesome n thanks for anyones help.

#1- run the front threw the inside of the car so they are not exosed to anything under the car. and the rears just drill a whole in the strut tower and run it threw there
#2- yes run a realy. if you go to suicidedoors.com it tells you how to run the relay. and i would run like a 30amp fuse depending on the size wire you are running to the relay from the battery.
#3- inside the car. same question as #1 lol
#4- again go to the suicide doors web site for a switch box wiring diagram
#5- you can barely do a three wheel in the front with the easy street bags in know but you will do a nice dog leg. especialy if you get a 3way valve for the rear cylinders to suck the wheel up.
#6- as for the way to set the tank up is up to you. if you have enough ports on the tank you can mount the valves right to the tank. or you can mount them else where but that is up to you. here is a pic of my setup in the trunk.

dont mind how mesy it is lol it needs to be cleaned up and stuff

1) i ran all my lines outside the car and never had a problem in the 3 years i had bags
2) yes as mentioned buy relays for the compressor. i also had a switch on my dash so i could turn it on if i wanted too
3) i prefer outside but you can do either or
4) search this forum you'll find the answer to that, its pretty easy to install
5) 3 wheel in the front, no. dog leg in the rear yes with cylinders its much much easier since you have the ablility to suck the wheel up in the wheel well with cylinders. with bags you would need a slight sloping road to get a slight dog leg, sway bars help too.
6) the system doesnt really take up much room, you can still put things in the trunk.

I can do a dog leg on flat ground....

fill all the way up, dump passenger or driverside corner..... And it comes up nicely. Could get more if I could drop that extra 10 psi in the front, but i sit on blocks, so I loose about 3/4" drop

Ok so relays are good for the compressor so any good ones i can get at pepboys/autozone/advanced? if so what kind (if a diff) and what size. as far as fuse what size would do? never did relays in a set up before of any kind.

just your normal one at pep boys works 30A i believe it is off the top of my head. as for fuse i am running a 30 amp like you would run for a stero system on i think 4 gauge wire. been so long since i have messed with my car lol

if you run 2 compressors, get a 80amp relay, and a 40amp fuse.

i think his tank has 3 ports or 4. you would just run them all off of that one extra one then. you should be able to figure it out. i dont feel like thinking right now. basicly you need a whole bunch of fittings and mount them on like a piece of wood

sorry alittle confusion on the tank im trying to post a pick but basically its about a foot or so long with a compressor input on one side and one hole has a pressure switch, one is an out to i beleive for the valve(i have 4 valves i didnt say above).and one thats sealed shut. also it came with looks like a water trap that goes on the compressor side between the tank and the compressor right?

yea water trap goes between the compressor and tank. try researching a little more i know your asking for help but this has been mentioned before and it doesnt seem like you have alot of knoledge with air ride. it sounds like you probally have a 5 gal 4 port tank. run the compressor on one with a T and you and put the PS in the T. then on another port you can run your front valves and another port you can run your rear valves.

for the relay im running a 80's model ford f100 starter relay its all metal and it never gets hot you dont need to roll the rear unless you are actually touching them but the front you do need to roll
